AGREED!!! talkabout crazy gte out and fly!! gets rid of all known upsets..untilya crash that is :*) ahhh well.....
if the RDS is anywhere near as good as the RD then..oh...it is the dsame radio with the transmissin changed...<GRIN> I want one just as soon as there are some more available....got me order in with my LHS and they are working on getting one in as soon as they can for me when the smaller Rx's become avaiable then life will really be sweet...that is one thing ALL the other 2.4's do NOT have as yet...as far as I know.

anyways.....hope the replacement Tx's arrive as fast as possible and that you ALL have some real good flying this year

Can't tell by your wording if you think NONE of the mfg don't have small RX's or just SOME of them do/don't. JR/Spektrum does have a variety of small RX's available. Futaba does not. Don't know about the "module only" companies like XPS.

Just returned from the LHS with the tx/rx combo. The tx is more of a work of art than what I had expected. It is weighted well, balanced and the gimbles feel wonderful. The throrrle gimbal has a very slight, almost imperceptable ratchet. The feel of the unit is of quality. True craftsmanship. OK I am now biased. The receiver is about the size of a matchbox and will mount easily into the heli. I can't wait to fly it.

I set mine up today in 2 airplanes. I agree with Kenvs about the quality. It appears awesome. I can't wait to fly this thing. One last thing, I stumbled across something about the timer. I don't know if it is common with other radios as my current and previous radios didn't support this. But each model has its own timer. Thought this was pretty neat......

Hi All;

Picked up my RDS8000 at my LHS. The owner and I had discussed this radio back in September of last year, he ordered two.
I never got the "rapid" flashing that is described in the manual, but both transmitter and receiver "binding" lights glow steady and the receiver apperas to be fully functional.
I am not sure if this is normal or not.

In process of completing an Ultra-fly YAK 54 which will be the test bed for the radio system.

The instructions state to use plastic "pipe" to house and protect the two antenna. I am planning on using glo-fuel tubing.
One glued to a former (90 degrees to the plane front-to-back) and one glued to the inside of the fuse sheeting (parallel to plane front-to-back) just below the canopy rail).
Can anyone advise me on the use of glo fuel tubing for this purpose, or offer suggestions for a better material?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Good Winds!

Al

The outer case/tube for Gold-n-rod or similar may work better for this purpose.

Hi Bruce;

Thanks for the reply, but I discounted the use of ny-rod, as the red (outer tube) is too large and the yellow (inner tube) is too small. At least in the ny-rods that I have on hand.
I tried to upload photo's of my installation, but do not see any indication that the photo's uploded. I did get a message that stated they did.??? (its my first time at attempting to upload photo's.
I am still not sure if this is going to work. If the photo's are available, the fuel tubing are the green objects. The one on the fuse side is just slightly visable.
The arrangement does not have any sharp bends in the coax lead and the "antenna" ends are at right angles to each other.
The RDS800 FHSS does have a "Range Check Mode". As soon as the weather permits I'll check the range.
I live in Connecticut, it'll probably be April before I attempt to fly this bird. (After the March winds are through and my fingers have thawed.)

Good Winds!

Al

What you have done should be just fine. I was just presenting options.

I'm itching to get mine in. It's back ordered at Tower and says late Feb on the web site. Anyone know a date when the transmitters are supposed to get in?

They have the receivers in stock there, so I'll probably go ahead and order a few in the next couple of days. I was at the field today, and keep waiting for the last time I have to remember to go grab that pin!!

Let this be a WARNING to anyone shipping a radio by mail. I sold a used TX to a guy and somehow, the switch got turned on. Maybe it happened by me by accident or the package got bounced by the USPS handlers. Anyway, by the time the package got to it's destination, the battery was low and the TX started to beep. The mail clerk panickec and put the package in the bathtub in the back room of the post office. She thought it was a bomb!

My advice is that when you ship a radio, please disconnect the TX battery first.

Eplane65, I can say that I have never ever considered what you spoke of. But the way things are today, perhaps it's a good idea.

Earlier in this thread there were two people who had received new radios which seemed to be inop. What was the final resolution on these instances? I assume that Airtronics replaced them if they were faulty? Did you get your new units and are they OK?

Thanks, Dick

I have talked to two customers. One was a dealer and the other was his customer (customer was the person who posted here in this thread...). The ONE radio I have in-hand is that customers and so far is operative. However, we are checking it just to be sure. The other radio in question I have not seen yet and am working with the dealer to either find the problem or replace the radio.

This the only situation I am aware of at the moment and we are working to resolve the problem for the customer. We certainly don't want anyone to feel unsupported!!!

Of course, we've also been in contact with many customers, reviewers, Team-Pilots, etc who are
