I have a Spektrum Module in one of my Futaba 9Cs.

I fly in Syosset. We have a club and field here.

The RDS8000 has flown in a 35% extra with a gas/ignition engine with good success. I think the RF most spark engines put out are well below the 2.4GHz level so I don't think there will be a problem. None of our testing has shown problems with spark, but obviously every one of those older spark engines are a little different.

I must tell you all how happy I am to see so many positive posts!!! Thanks for so much quick feedback!

This weekend Airtronics does have a booth at the WRAM show, my co-worker Craig Kaplan is working the booth. If you get a chance stop in this weekend and say "hi". He's got the RDS radio on display as well as a new servo...

Mike,

Yes, I was aware that the RDS has been flown on a giant model with a weed-eater type motor. But those motors have car type resistor spark plugs and often shielded leads. And of course the large size of the model permits greater physical separation between radio and engine. The old time spark engines do not have the luxury of resistor plugs or shielded leads. And due to the smaller size of the models and the short noses, the receiver is usually only a couple inches away from the ignition components. It's a wonder they work at all. Back in the days of AM radios, noise didn't seem to be much of a problem. Only when FM appeared did it become critical.

I know Mike already said that more recievers are in the works, but I would really like to see a micro 4 channel reciever for small foamies and park flyers. Hopefully there is enough demand for airtronics to produce something like that for the RDS. (Likely priced as competitively as the radio is!)

Micro will most likely be a VERY LIGHT 6 channel. The different in weight between 4 and 6 is hardly different and obviously the 6 channel is WAY more versatile.

As for more RDS8000 radios. YES I agree completely. More radios are scheduled to arrive this week (assuming there's no problem with customs...obviously I have NO control over them!!!) This shipment will cover almost all of our backorders and certainly EVERY one from December!!

A light 6 channel reciever would be perfect! I managed to obtain the radio from my LHS, but haven't been able to fly as my plane is not finished. However the radio is VERY nice. Now I am just waiting for a smaller reciever for my small foam plane.

Just ordered 2 Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 GHz radios from hobby people never had an airtronics radio before hope they are as good as they say. Hobby people said that they should have some in by the end of march.

At this time, the only 2.4GHz module we're working on for older radios is the Stylus. Once that module is done and some of the other major projects are done (like the 10 channel) then we will consider more projects such as 2.4GHz modules for older radios.

Well, This past Sunday I test flew my Dual ace with an RDS in it and it flew great. All I can say about the RDS is it did every thing I wanted, and felt great doing it. I did 4 flights with it and I'm still getting use to it....The real test will be in the next week or so when I fly the RDS in a Tiger 60. This plane is already flying with a 91 four stroke and Futaba radio. So with it I'll be able to make a comparison between the two radios. But so far I am definately pleased with the RDS. Later Skip D
