Does anyone know if you can use a 5 cell battery with this reciever? The manual states 4 cell 4.8V, I wonder if this set in stone for reciever battery.

I received my initial order of 3 receivers from Tower a few weeks ago. Still waiting on the TX I ordered Feb 5...Tower backorder status is "mid March".

All my new planes will be getting the new radio gear. I should have my Kaos ready for radio in a week. Behind that is a .60-.90 size Spitfire ARF from China, a vintage King Altair pattern kit, and a Phoenix Models Extra 330. Building season in Florida is over the summer so I've got my work cut out for me. Now I just need a TX

You have to go right to the "Etc." menu, scroll down to "BAS" and turn it off. Then you scroll back up and left to "El", Ail, etc and scroll down to "Exp". See, by turning off BASic, you get into the Advanced menu. Kinda nutty but that's how it works.

Mike,

Today's spread spectrum radio market is both exciting and challenging for the consumer because of the choices for a number of very high quality products available now and anticipating that there are soon going to a number of additional products to reach the market. The Airtronics performance in announcing and delivering their system in such a short time frame is somewhat of a miracle and speaks volumes - maybe a late entry but, once you joined the party the radio appeared almost over night. Your price point makes the RDS 8000 a serious contender for a huge segment of sport flyers and certainly for many newcomers in our great hobby. I flew with Airtronics equipment for a number of years and loved the equipment and the level of service was something to brag about.

The purpose of this post is to ask you provide us an insight to the list of features that are being considered for the upcoming Airtronics 10 channel system. Today, I use a JR 9303 and the RDS8000 is simply not a comparable replacement - I certainly don't mean that as a negative comment. Trying to make decisions about how best to spend the hobby dollar includes the enjoyment of gathering all the data before hitting the buy button. I am presently looking down the road for my next radio and was hoping that your new 10 channel would be part of the effort. Your competitors would respond to this request by saying "information will be available at the appropriate time" but, I was hoping that you might be able to throw us a bone. Thanks

Howard

I am glad you asked about flaps!!!!!
Go here for common set up tips at Airtronics.net Including how to setup Ultra stik stuff.

http://www.airtronics.net/RD8000setup.asp

Howard: Throw you a bone... Airtronics/Sanwa is working on a couple of different options. I can tell you that a whole line of radios are being worked on. Some final decisions about features and price points are not made yet. I just spent a week at Sanwa Japan working on the new radios with their engineers and pilots. GREAT group of people who certainly want to make some ground breaking stuff!

At Toledo I will be able to tell you more. They are at a bit of a cross roads on what to make "next" and that will affect what I can commit to publicly. Believe or not saying even ideas here on the net seems to immediately become "written in stone commitments" from Airtronics!!! It's too much!!

Anyway, I'll know more and have public information at Toledo about the features of the upcoming 10 channel. And if all goes as planned a beta mock up sample of the TX will be there so we can get feed back from customers about the fit and feel of the radio. Obviously industrial design of the controller is ultra important to us. So, we'll be asking show visitors for feedback.

I truly wish I could be more specific, but we're truly about 2 weeks premature from saying much yet.

Mike

OK, all 8 channels can be used with no problem and it's 4.8 to 6.0V nominal voltage. So yes, your 5 cell pack is fine.

If I missed this and answered the wrong question, please tell me... Frankly I'm still a little jet-lagged...

That is a fair and honest answer and it gives me something to look forward to (Toledo) that is not too far down the lane. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend Toledo but I will watch and listen to all of the reporting and posts on this thread. Perhaps you might be able to post a summary of the available information at that time and a picture of the beta controller. Thank you for taking the time to answer my post and thanks for keeping all of us plugged in.
