I also ordered and have already received 3 additional receivers from Tower but of course those are just the receivers, no additional accessories.

Are those the 8-channel 92824 2.4GHz receivers? I can't find them on the Tower site? Tower part #?

TIA,

CR

Here ya go:

The only other SS RX they have right now is a 3 channel.

Yes, those are the 8 CH 2.4 RCVs. Here's a link:

Towers part number is LXTZU8

I just received my RDS8000 TX from Tower. From the looks of it, and of course from everything I've read on this thread, this is a nice looking and quality TX.

One comment on packaging...the receiver was sitting in the same large slot [in the styrofoam case] as the wall wart so they may have been knocking against each other during shipping. All those extra empty slots where servos normally go...I would think the rcvr would be better tucked into one of those and maybe add some bubble rap or something to keep it from moving during shipment. Hopefuly no problems...

Timing was excellent. I had just started final installation of the electronics on my new Kaos (also from Tower). Crossing fingers I can button everything up, learn how to use the radio (just like using excel is what I've heard so should be easy), and maiden both the plane and radio on Sunday.

Ok, just got mine from tower, and the box was smashed in. I opened up the box, and the wall charger and receiver were just sitting in there. At least I know from yours that it didn't get spilled out on the floor then just hastily put back in.

What comes in the box for the $230? There is no description on the Tower, Airtronics or Global Websites. I assume no servos, but what kind of batteries come in the TX? Any for the receiver?

Anyone fly their systems yet? I never liked Futaba for a variety of reasons I won;t go into here. The one receiver appeals to me more than the two receivers needed with the Spektrum.

Thanks

bob

The Sanwa batteries that came in my three RD series were the worst excuse for batteries I've ever had the displeasure of owning.
If those are what they are still using then you need to get some different tx and rx batteries before you ever use it.

Hello fredscz, According to my internal timer it reads 6:53 (timer only runs when transmitter is on). I did the original 24 hour charge and have two full 12 hour charges on it. So let's say 3 hours flight time per charge, not bad for NiCd. This figure will drop once the batteries age. I'm sure using NiMH batteries when the NiCd batteries die will increase this time. Very nice radio! Buy the way this kit does not include a receiver battery only a transmitter battery. Excellent radio for the money! North

By the way, I used my Easystar 54" wing span for a distance test. Flew it directly above me till it was just a dot in the sky....It flew just fine , Starting too really like this unit. North

You get the Tx w/battery, Rx, charger and manual. Uh, seems like there was a switch harness in there too. I have flown mine, so have some others. Read the thread.

I mentioned a few posts ago that I was hoping to maiden my new KAOS and new RDS8000 this weekend. Well I did and I wanted to give an update.

This is my first Airtronics radio. I had heard programming was very easy and I can now confirm that. Its a very sensible, straighforward, and user friendly interface. I know there are some on this thread that have commented about a few computer controls they felt were missing, but I was quite happy with the process for reversing servos, fine tuning the center point, and setting up exponential. For now, that's all I needed, and it was very easy to learn and do.

Because I've heard nothing but good reports in this thread on both testing and actual flying in the field with this radio, I didn't have any reservations about putting my KAOS up with this gear.

I did a quick range check (with the tx in range check mode), verified the controls, and maidened everything. A few clicks here or there and everything was trimmed and the rest of the flight was pretty much "uneventful" which is exactly what I was hoping for. The controls were very responsive (no hints of droppouts or signal loss)...

I had to wait for the weather to clear and there was only one other person at the field at the time flying on ch 54 so I can't say anything about performance in a "congested" environment, but I really have no reservations flying this anywhere.

The one caveat I would have, and this goes for any 2.4 system, is never to fly when you are around 2.4 wireless routers or phones, and not to fly with metal objects (fencing) between you and your plane. These are common sense precautions and I believe they were both highlighted in the RDS8000 manual. My brother's field goes even farther and bans cell phones in the pilot boxes. They are convinced that when a cell phone rings it can interfere with a transmitter. I can't confirm or deny that...just passing it on for what it's worth.

I had also commented a few posts back that my RX and wall wart were knocking against each other in the package during shipping. Happily, I had no problems with the receiver, but Mike if you're reading this I would be interested to know if this feedback is going to make it back to the shipping department so they can do a little better job of stabilizing the RX for shipping. It would be a shame to spend so much time and energy building quality into the design and manufacturing process, only to introduce a potential problem during shipping. I'm not saying this has or will cause any failures, but it just seems very common sense that this should be addressed. My 2 cents...

Oh, BTW, my new KAOS flew very well. I need a little more aileron, and I'm having some performance problems with an engine I picked up from a swap meet (the Tower .46 I ordered with the KAOS in December is still on backorder) but I'll get that straightened out.

I like this radio so much, I'm going to keep my eyes open for an RD8000 on CH 60 so I can get rid of my other transmitters and have up to twenty planes ready to fly on two (nearly identical) radio systems :-)

Lynner532 very good post, I am an RD8000 user and have purchased an RDS as well. I'm keeping my RD 8000 for my 35% stuff as I have never had a problem with it. I am currently waiting for snow to clear at my field so I may test the RDS unit as well. I always change out the stock TX battery for 2300ma nimh batterys but beware of positive and negative polarity before installing any new battery into an Airtronics TX as polarity is different from other systems.

Thanks metal...

If the battery polarity is different, how about the charging jack? Can you charge this with wall warts from Futaba/Hitec/compatible systems without reversing polarity?

I read a few posts about replacing the TX battery. I'll keep an eye on it.

Jay
