Status: offline 		I got to play with the RD8000 2.4 at the Chicago Show this past weekend. Light and extremely comfortable, simple to program.

Let's just say that I am getting one as soon as it hits these shores. With a bunch of receivers. And yes, I'd already converted my Futaba 9C to the Futaba FASST. Based on the pricing that was being discussed at the show (I don't know if this has been made public yet), this radio is going to be an extremely popular 8ch 2.4 system with essentially no competition.

Status: offline 		Ok, grant me a little hyperbole.

At what I understand to be the price point, the RD8000 2.4 offers more channels and generally more features than anything else while feeling to be constructed similarly to or better than others in that range. To me, that leaves little direct competition.

It also seemed pretty easy to learn to use. I'm a long time Futaba user. I've owned 9C's since the first shipment. I presently have 2, one is converted to FASST 2.4. I also owned one of the first 14MZ's, and have owned a JR as well. So, I am not an Airtronics guy at all. But I was quite impressed at the value proposition. For those thinking of converting over to 2.4, the RD8000 will certainly make it an interesting decision.

Status: offline 		Well, I'm certainly curious as to see the price point that Airtronics and Global set for the U.S. Market. Given the value of the dollar in recent months, the VG400 radio may be $899.99 pretty soon.

That is a TX with rechargeables and a matching receiver. No servos because we felt we shouldn't force customers to buy servos they are never going to use.

Yes, that's 229.99 for the RDS8000 2.4GHz radio TX and RX with tx battery and charger.

Do NOT confuse that with a 72mhz RD8000.

Status: offline 		$229 for TX and RX is a very competitive price. It is similar to the Futaba 6EX but the RD8000 is a FAR more capable transmitter than the Futaba. And, on a programming level, it would be comparable to the DX7 but 8 channel.

Very competitive. Now we have to see how well it works.

Status: offline 		How it works is the supreme priority at Airtronics/Sanwa. As I said in posts past, 2.4GHz is certainly not a new concept for Airtronics/Sanwa. The radio was shown in May at Shizouka and has been in testing ever since. We've been testing it here in the good ol' USA in heli's with lots of carbon (Raptor 90), in glow fun fly planes, in indoor electrics, in EDF's, in Scale Glow, Saiplanes, etc.

It's one thing to test on the bench. It's another to fly at fields with 10-12 radios in use in 72MHz and 2.4GHz from all brands and then turning on and off, and then testing range AND possible interference when placing other radios between ours and others.

Testing has been careful and methodical to not only make sure the radio works and is reliable, but to ensure all tests were safe for us and other people at the field. All radio manufacturers today are careful. NO ONE is going to put out a radio without thorough tests both on the bench AND in real-world environment.

The good news is that testing so far has great. Reliable, long range, etc.

Reliability has always been the hallmark of Airtronics. It is certainly my priority as Product Manager for Airtronics North/South America.

Status: offline 		Transmitter's capabilities are the same as the RD8000. So you can check those out and download a manual for free at www.airtronics.net

Receiver specs will be available soon (along with pics and info that will be posted to the site hopefully by end of next week).

I expect to have stock early next year, maybe as soon as end of January, but it's a little soon to slap an exact date on that first shipment.

The radio really is a neat setup. The menus are super easy to navigate and basic operations are amazingly simple.
