bigedmustafa -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/17/2007 10:58:52 PM)

Is it your understanding that the RD8000's programming and menu features will be carried over intact so that current owners will be instantly familiar with the radio?

RCAddiction -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/23/2007 3:23:55 AM)

I got to play with the RD8000 2.4 at the Chicago Show this past weekend. Light and extremely comfortable, simple to program.

Let's just say that I am getting one as soon as it hits these shores. With a bunch of receivers. And yes, I'd already converted my Futaba 9C to the Futaba FASST. Based on the pricing that was being discussed at the show (I don't know if this has been made public yet), this radio is going to be an extremely popular 8ch 2.4 system with essentially no competition.

No competition? This I have got to see. [:D]

RCAddiction -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/23/2007 4:37:06 AM)

Ok, grant me a little hyperbole. [:D]

At what I understand to be the price point, the RD8000 2.4 offers more channels and generally more features than anything else while feeling to be constructed similarly to or better than others in that range. To me, that leaves little direct competition.

It also seemed pretty easy to learn to use. I'm a long time Futaba user. I've owned 9C's since the first shipment. I presently have 2, one is converted to FASST 2.4. I also owned one of the first 14MZ's, and have owned a JR as well. So, I am not an Airtronics guy at all. But I was quite impressed at the value proposition. For those thinking of converting over to 2.4, the RD8000 will certainly make it an interesting decision.

bigedmustafa -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/25/2007 10:34:49 PM)

Well, I'm certainly curious as to see the price point that Airtronics and Global set for the U.S. Market. Given the value of the dollar in recent months, the VG400 radio may be $899.99 pretty soon. [X(]

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 1:02:45 AM)

We did already announce the price at the Chicago Show. Consumer price is about $229.99
That is a TX with rechargeables and a matching receiver. No servos because we felt we shouldn't force customers to buy servos they are never going to use.

Mike,
What is going to be price for the receivers.

bruce88123 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 1:11:53 AM)

$229.99 for the RD8000 TX and RX?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 1:16:08 AM)

We are still working on the pricing for the receiver alone. Sorry for the delay.

Yes, that's 229.99 for the RDS8000 2.4GHz radio TX and RX with tx battery and charger.

Do NOT confuse that with a 72mhz RD8000.

Mike

aeajr -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 3:25:03 AM)

$229 for TX and RX is a very competitive price. It is similar to the Futaba 6EX but the RD8000 is a FAR more capable transmitter than the Futaba. And, on a programming level, it would be comparable to the DX7 but 8 channel.

Very competitive. Now we have to see how well it works.

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 3:37:12 AM)

How it works is the supreme priority at Airtronics/Sanwa. As I said in posts past, 2.4GHz is certainly not a new concept for Airtronics/Sanwa. The radio was shown in May at Shizouka and has been in testing ever since. We've been testing it here in the good ol' USA in heli's with lots of carbon (Raptor 90), in glow fun fly planes, in indoor electrics, in EDF's, in Scale Glow, Saiplanes, etc.

It's one thing to test on the bench. It's another to fly at fields with 10-12 radios in use in 72MHz and 2.4GHz from all brands and then turning on and off, and then testing range AND possible interference when placing other radios between ours and others.

Testing has been careful and methodical to not only make sure the radio works and is reliable, but to ensure all tests were safe for us and other people at the field. All radio manufacturers today are careful. NO ONE is going to put out a radio without thorough tests both on the bench AND in real-world environment.

The good news is that testing so far has great. Reliable, long range, etc.

Reliability has always been the hallmark of Airtronics. It is certainly my priority as Product Manager for Airtronics North/South America.

Thanks Mike. We look foreward to getting more product info, specs, etc as soon as they are available.

What is the projected release date?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 4:05:03 AM)

Transmitter's capabilities are the same as the RD8000. So you can check those out and download a manual for free at www.airtronics.net

Receiver specs will be available soon (along with pics and info that will be posted to the site hopefully by end of next week).

I expect to have stock early next year, maybe as soon as end of January, but it's a little soon to slap an exact date on that first shipment.

The radio really is a neat setup. The menus are super easy to navigate and basic operations are amazingly simple.

Too bad you will miss the Christmas season. Could have sold a LOT of systems.

ira d -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 4:18:17 AM)

The Airtronics 8ch 2.4 GHZ sounds like a nice radio at a fair price and it looks like
they may beat the long awaited Futaba 8 and 12 ch systems to market.

RCAddiction -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 4:21:46 AM)

Ed, see? I told you it was competitive!

Another nice feature.....the Airtronics RDS8000 2.4 has a single, compact receiver design with dual antennae similar to the Futaba 2.4. I prefer this solution over the Spektrum/JR 2.4 execution, which requires 2 separate receivers.

Cost Comparison - to convert my Futaba 9C to 2.4 FASST cost me $249 for only 7 channel capability. It's $349 for an 8 channel version. I could have gotten a really nice, new 8 channel 2.4 radio for less!

TLH101 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 4:59:09 AM)

Mike,
Any idea how long after the RD8000 is released, we will be able to get 2.4 fot a Stylus?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 8:07:18 AM)

The only date I have is for the RDS8000 which barring any last minute problems, will go into production in December.

I'll have a better idea of time frame within the next month or so.

Very exciting Mike!!! I loved my RD6000. Keep up the good work and come to a valley flyers meeting and show this new radio please.

Joe

Mike,
will your system have a single RX like Futaba or a satellite RX like JR/Spektrum or something different still?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/26/2007 9:21:35 PM)

It is a Dual Antenna, single Receiver type system. It uses Frequency Hopping.

When I have production models to show, maybe for Jan I can get over to the Valley Flyers meeting. Good idea!

Mike,

Come on out to Long Island and let's put it in one of my sailplanes and push it out there. We can do a review for RCUniverse.

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (10/27/2007 2:35:15 AM)

I've got guys here flying it beyond both their own eyesight limits and FAR beyond what is normally permitted at their field. ALL of my testers have had their field marshals let them know to "reel it in".. We've measured well over 2600 feet. One field marshal asked if the pilot was going to fly that baby on to Catalina Island!

I appreciate all the offers to test, but since our own world-class Airtronics Team guys haven't all been able to fly one yet, I'm sorta' obliged to hook them up before I can consider anyone else... I think Skip's feelings would be hurt if I didn't get him one next!

I've been wanting to try an Airtronics radio system; this RD8000 2.4Ghz system sounds like the perfect reason to make the jump. I could die of old age before Futaba ever ships the 7C FASST system, and it still won't have all of the RD8000's features.

really??? since when did the RD8000 get the basic function of dual rate on the rudder???? Something that even the most basic computer radio should have.
