I received my RDS8000 from Tower Hobbies today. I really like that they kept the menu the same as the RD8000, (and the RD 6000).
The function buttons seem a little more pronounced and have a better feel to them. If you like black transmitters, you'll love this one! And some cool stickers came with it.

I just ordered mine from Tower on Thursday with an extra receiver. There ad said they were in stock and had limited quantities. I checked again on Saturdsay and there ad said order pending. There is no telling when I''ll get it now .

MikeGreenshields,

How come as big as Tower Hobbies is, they can''t get the radio in very quick compared to a lot of LHS that already have them in stock. Tower just switched there stock status to late April. Experience with Tower tells me that when late April comes it will be switched to late May. I could be waiting half of the summer. It ain't lookin good.

Tower was actually showing the RDS8000 as "In Stock" for a brief period late last week. They''re simply selling through them faster than they can restock them. Tower Hobbies has been a popular source for the radio because their discount codes match well with the pricing of the RDS8000.

I believe that with production now in full swing, Sanwa and Global Hobby will be doing their best to keep everyone topped up with all of the RDS8000 inventory that they want.

Tower Hobbies would rather be selling 7C FASST radio systems, but with Futaba''s recent issues regarding 6 and 7 channel FASST products, the Airtronics system gives them a high-demand product to sell rather than losing even more 2.4Ghz market share to Horizon Hobby.

If Tower Hobbies doesn''t have RDS8000 systems in stock, it''s probably because Tower Hobbies doesn''t want to order any more than they have to in order to keep up with pre-sold demand. The folks who own Tower Hobbies are probably hoping to get the Futaba FAAST lineup straightened out so Tower can sell more of those to compete with Horizon''s 2.4Ghz offerings rather than relying on Airtronics to fill the void.

The bottom line? If you order an RDS8000 radio system from Tower Hobbies, they''ll get it out to you sooner rather than later. RDS8000 radios aren''t made in the same GMS factory as all of the Super Tigre and Tower Hobbies engines that Tower is out of.

I ordered my system from Tower last week and it arrived today. The one comment I will make has been said before.....the receiver and charger were rattling around in the box. Don;t think they met, but perhaps another piece of foam should be stuffed on them.

First impression is that it looks better to me than the Spektrum and Futaba radios. Plus it is 8 channels. I will be reading the manual tonight.

One reason everyone is ordering from Tower is that they have had a $30 internet coupon to bring the price down to $199. Too good to pass up. The hobby shops not carrying these don;t know what they are missing. Don;t know how many are being sold, but hope Sanwa/Global are making plenty to keep the new product pipeline full. Global needs to partner with a helicopter company that can use this transmitter. An ARF with everything installed, trimmed out, etc, but just needing the TX.

We do have several heli dealers carrying the radio. We are looking at a Cypher combo but when you add it up, it will not be cheap!

As for Tower, they are a very regular dealer, obviously ordering a lot. However, please know I have no control over what they buy and/or how many.

Just like others have said, if Tower doesn''t have it, ask your local dealer or one of the other mail order companies carrying the radio.

Mike
