PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE ! release a much lighter rx for the RDS, It sucks to have to use old 72, for indoor flight!
Don't make me regret not getting a Spectrum!. 4ch/6ch I don't care, just something in the ~4-7g range.

As previously noted, we are in design on a micro 6 channel in the 6 gram range. Obviously we want to get it out for indoor season which generally starts toward the end of the year. Also note that the receiver with the case removed is about 12 grams.

I did read you were working on it. I'm just impatient.
I'll just keep using my RD6000 until it comes out. (8 year old radio, still going strong.)
Will it be quicker to just have 4 ch's?

Don't Worry, we didn't change our minds. The micro is being worked on. 6 and 4 channel to develop is the same time, etc. Doing 6 makes it so that the one receiver will work for a larger number of applications, the cost is nearly the same, and the weight is nearly the same.

All,
Bought an RDS8000 and extra receiver, Using my fairly new bird (Cap10b from VQ) using Stylus and 92085 PPM Receiver.
Brand new G26EI, this set up is proven with many flights to date.

Took the RDS8K out of the box did a bind on the receiver, set fail safe to low throttle. Swapped receivers in the plane and used two Du-Bro antenna tubes to direct the 2.4 antenna 90 degrees. Unloaded plane at the field , fired up the motor and did a reduced range check 30 paces at reduced range on the transmitter. Solid as a rock. Topped off the fuel tank taxied out to the north end of the runway and took off.

No problems, no brown outs no slow servo movements, flew with several other planes in the air and with people using cell phones and so forth. (I know I know your not supposed to but I m not strip searching flying buds on the flight line dont want that experience to damage my vision)

Flying was weird at first kept thinking something was missing off my radio, felt unbalanced as radio didnt hang right. Every time I proceded to start up I kept looking to pull out my antenna after start up. No such thing.

But it sure was nice to walk over to the frequency board and place my card in the SS section of the board. Everybody wanting to see your set up, and of course no more bumping into a certain jet jockey that I had to share channel 39 with.

Im sold.

JDS

I agree 2.4 is nice I still use the radio impound to be politically correct. I can get 45 to 50 paces in range check mode before things start to happen, works out to be 80-90 feet as per manual. I am very interested in future releases of Airtronics 10-channel transmitter systems with all the bells and whistles. I know it will be a breeze to navigate through the menus as Airtronics has the easiest transmitters to set-up.

F.Y.I. Hobby People is selling the RDS8000 RX & TX for only $169.99 on July 4th (between 9 AM & 3 PM). That's $60 (26%) off. Best deal I've seen yet. That's almost free!

My lovely wife...
Ahhh.... I love her to death..... It's actually "she" that wants me to go with a "Big Two" radio.... Something about this Airtronics thing though..... Mike G just jumped right in with a nice reply about my heli endeavors....
I own a small business.... I know it takes a lot..... I just like what Airtronics is doing..... My wife... She would like to go to the local HS and pick me up a receiver or servos... Without the cross eyed looks.... (Hot Wife)
Airtronics, keeps swaying me.... Look Here... 8 channels plus mixing..."
Once I mentioned she could go to the LHS and get what ever she wanted to get me... (Servo or plane wise, I guess, I was golden....)
I almost think I'm waiting for the 10 Chan Trans.... Somehow I think I would like the knobs for things.... She keeps telling me "Alright, just be done with it and get the RDS8000" I'm so inclined to wait a few days and find it on sale....
All the best,
AP
PS, please (you folks) let me know when there is a sale....!!!!

APAudVid,
buy the RDS 8000 for now and upgrade later, you could always use the RDS 8000 as a buddy box later. Mean while you can build up your 2.4 RX inventory. That is what I'm doing.................... just sharing ideas.

The RDS8000 is going to be on sale at Hobby People during their one day sale July 4th for $169.99. That is a great price. I may end up getting a second one for the cost.

How are you folks finding out about these upcoming sales? I've signed up for their flyers (and mailing list)...I am receiving the flyer but I'm not seeing any emails and they aren't rolling to my junk folder (using hotmail).

I got the flier in the mail. Center fold shot. To me, the RDS blows the doors off the Futaba's, DX6, 6i, 7, and all others. Could be just me, but I like my RDS8000.

Dru.

It is on the 4th only, may be able to order it, but may also be in store only too. Could always call and see.

This thread has been going for over a year now, but as long as there is an interest, why not?
I just bought an RDS 8000 after reading RC KEN's review of it. I had been considering other brands but the RDS seems to have a lot for the $$$. Anyway, I used it for the first time today - a very windy and stormy day here in Wisconsin (as usual lately) and the radio performed perfectly on at least one of my birds. I have yet try the others. I do have a question on the programming though. I have a ZAGI programmed for Delta mode which , of course, mixes elevator and ailerons. My question is: can I set up duel rates in the elevon mix mode, and if so, will I need to throw both dual rate switches when I want to transfer to dual rate? The manual doesn't say anything about this - hoping RC KEN picks up on this.
Overall, this was a good day since both plane and radio were on a maiden voyage on windy seas and both survived.

Snobelt,
Sorry, that is a question that I don't know the answer to. Maybe Mike will pass by and give you an answer. Or, if nothing else you can experiment with the radio. Simply set it up on the plane and see what happens with the setup when you change to dual rate.

Sorry that I couldn't be of more help

Ken
