That is only a sample mock up form the initial drawings used to test for style/feel. The final radio which is still under development will be released early 2009. I expect we will not be releasing much information about it until Jan 09 or so.

Re: my post 734

For several years I've been primarily using Airtronics radios beginning with the Module, a couple of Spectrums, Radiant, RD6000, RD6000S and RDSS8000 . I've been very happy with all of them except the Radiant. With it I had functionality issues. I never had a failure with any of them except the new RDSS8000. It seems it just quit transmitting after about 30 flights. Tried rebinding and different receivers, no help. A different transmitter worked fine with the receivers. I was just about to fly a pylon racer on our practice course when it quit. We do a last second pre-launch check that caught it. Took the system back to Hobby People and they gave me a new one. It works great and guides my pylon racers.

My son's email this am

Dad,

Last night my Airtronics transmitter did exactly what yours did. Powered on for the first time yesterday and the Tx and Rx were not paired…tried the two racers that had been flown and they lost their pairing as well. Made many attempts to re-bind with no success.

Weird.

1 event is an oh well. 2 events may be a worry some trend. He is contacting Airtronics this morning.

I had exactly the same problem with my RDS8000 in June. Worked ok for the first flight of the day, when it came time for the second flight, it just didn't work, but at least it waited until the airplane was on the ground to fail. I guess at turn-on.

Every thing looked ok, no servo action, not response to stick movement. It wouldn't rebind, or go into the range test mode etiher.

Hobby People replaced the transmitter, and the second one works great - so far.

I hope Sanyo in investigating this problem by testing the failed transmitters, not just replacing them.

One of the deciding factors that made me order a second RDS8000 for a buddy box (besides wanting two more receivers) was wanting a backup transmitter to use in case I needed to get my primary RDS8000 serviced. I hope I don't have to take advantage of my forethought anytime soon, but I know I won't regret spending the extra money.

I did the same thing after my first one failed and they had a super deal going. I think my son is going to be using the back up transmitter for a couple of weeks now. I hope he copied down all the parameters

Has there been any response from Airtronics about the Tx/Rx failures (i.e. losing their pairing settings, etc)?

My Tx and Rx paired easily but am reluctant to flight test my new RDS system until I know more about the problem. The manual's pairing instructions (page 16) caught my attention and I think they are somewhat confusing. First, they say that once the Tx and Rx are paired, settings are remembered; then, it goes on to say that "under some circumstances" (what are they?) the Rx may not operate(!) and the pairing operation must be repeated. Sounds like the Rx is the problem ... but the wording is ambiguous.

While exchanging Txs and Rxs is a nice customer gesture, and may be appropriate in some instances, it doesn't solve or resolve the problem. Anyway, I hope we find out what's going on before too much time passes...

As you can see with the failure we are encountering repairing with the receiver in use or pairing with any other receiver doesn't work. And the problem is the transmitter as the receivers will pair with any other transmitters. The problem so far has not been a threat to flight as the problem occurs at turn on or last turn off. Can't tell which obviously. Have not heard from Airtronics other than they told my son to send his in. They did tell him they needed a sales receipt to do a warranty repair which he could not find. After some discussion about the radios being available for less than a year and only through Hobby People they kind of backed off.

Hi All,

I've kinda' let this go a few days to see what was said/not said. Once I pipe in, it obviously skews people's reactions a little, so I try not to butt in until it seems to be needed.

So here goes.

1. There is no back up battery. This technology does not need a back up battery.

2. Yes, we've had a few do what you said. It NEVER happens during flight. Your model is NEVER at risk. The computer is designed so that if there's a problem with the RF, you never get a false-positive (you think you have a unique connection but you don't) instead it does fail competely.

3. Yes, if it happens, it is covered under warranty.

4. No, we've actually had very very few radios have a problem at all. We performed TONS of QC prior to sale and have been performing ongoing tests. And every single radio that has any problem at all (more have come back from being dropped, than have come back with a computer problem of any kind) has gone back to Sanwa for inspection.

We are supremely confident that the radio is as reliable or more reliable than any radio in its class. And ALL testing continues to show us that if there's a failure, it happens during power up or model switch and if it binds, that means it's good. Period.

I know some of you are frustrated by a problem with the radio but truly, the radio is warrantied, and as we continue to watch the radio very closely, we find it to be safe and reliable.

As you know Global has certainly sold MANY radios over the last 35 years from all makers world-wide. And Sanwa continues to have the lowest failure/return rates and highest level of customer satisfaction we've ever experienced.

So there you have it, exactly what we're seeing and exactly what we've done. I may not be in the office until Tuesday. Maybe sooner if I feel up to it (have some minor medical stuff that will put me out for a day) so don't be upset if you don't hear from me for a day or two.

Mike
