2. The TX antenna is even more important. It must not be pointed at the plane. We have tested this over and over and it is very clear and obvious. You get huge signal problem when you point the TX antenna directly at the plane.

I guess you mean it should not be constantly pointed at the plane. Even with the tx antenna perfectly perpendicular to the ground chances are it will be (briefly) pointing at the plane at some point when you are flying in circles.

Not unless you are flying directly overhead.

I mean it should never point at the plane. If you are planning on flying directly overhead and you're going to hold the tx in such a way that it points straight up, then lay the tx antenna over on its side.

If you fly directly over the point of the antenna, you will fly through a "hole" where there's no signal. And, if the farther away you are, the bigger the "hole" gets. (it's actually the hole is oval and coned starting at the tip of the tx antenna).

300 feet away with the rx antennas mounted properly will not cause a problem generally. But do the same thing 1000 feet away and you will feel a lost of signal.

Busted: Truly try the range test as I described next time. The pilot who came up with that suggestion was right-on and it will ensure you have no "dead spots" when you fly. And luckily as long as you have a helper the test is really easy to do.

Mike

Quick question guys.

Will my RDS8000 RX's work with other 2.4 TX's. As it turns out 8 channels is not enough

Gonna pick up a 10+ channel TX

Thanks! Pete

It should work with future/bigger Airtronics 2.4 systems but NOT those of other manufacturers.

Anyone using a regular NiCd 6v battery pack with this receiver?

I run a 3800 nimh 6v pack and a 2500 nimh 6v pack. The RX operates down to 1.8volts, your servos will stop working before the receiver does.

Planeclothes:

Using 6 volts on the Receiver. No problems using Futaba, JR or Hitec servos. Had a problem with a JR Retract servo but that was an input signal issue. Boosted the signal level into the servo and it worked fine.

I received my transmitter and the two receivers last week. I have both of them installed and running, with no problems so far. The only thing I had to do was shave my Futaba servos down with a Dermal tool. It just took a few seconds each.

In range testing, I've never seen everything so rock solid.

The only problem I can foresee is when I fly my other planes with my old transmitters. I just know I'm going to forget to put the antenna up. It sure is different not having the long antenna sticking out there.

That's good news, fishkillbill. I read about the futaba servo trimming in Ken's excellent review. I plan on using my RDS8000 w/futaba servos in a soon to get heli. I still don't understand. Could you please elaborate on your procedure for this newbie? Once again, congrats and thank you.

Mark,

You have to remove that little tab that fits into the slot on the Futaba receivers. Then, if you look at the Futaba servos, all four corners are square. In order to fit an Airtronic receiver, two corners, (one side), need to be rounded off.

Im still confused bout pointing tx at plane - if you hold tx straight in front of you and up at a small angle and are flying low in front of you, theres a chance of losing control? Please elaborate on this, was about to buy the radio until i read this.
Thanks.
