HMMMMMM 10 channel you say...... I know its early but any idea about what it might sell for....

or when it might be available?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/20/2007 6:56:13 AM)

Sorry. Other than TEASING you I can offer no further details. I know it sucks, but on the other hand I think Airtronics fans deserve to know that the Stylus is being replaced with a better, more powerful radio.

Mike, I've been holding out on a new radio purchase, waiting for a thoroughly tested 2.4 system to be produced. I'm currently using a DX7, but have had to curtail a lot of flying due to programming limitations.....Anxiously awaiting the release of the RDS8000, so I can get an Airtronics product (back) into my hands! You mentioned earlier that the antennas were on the end of coax...how long is the antenna/coax assembly, and do they need to be oriented in a specific manner?

aydin3 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/20/2007 6:42:36 PM)

Is there any news on when the RDS 8000 is going to be made aviable to the public yet? I am looking to purchase a new radio and would like to get it in the next 6 weeks. If the RDS is going to be available by then or not too long after, I would prefer to get one of them. If not then it will be the 7C I guess.

thanks,

Dave L

poo..I REALLY shouldl read ALL of the posts...:) hopefully i will be able to get one of the 2nd shipment :)

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/20/2007 7:02:03 PM)

Antennas:
They are about 7 inches long in total, but only the last 1.1 inch or so is actually antenna. The rest is coaxial cable connecting the antenna to the receiver.

Yes, they have to be oriented a certain way. The actually antenna portion (remember there are two) have to be 90 degrees to each other. But that can be right next to each other, right next to the receiver, or spread out however you like according to what they are going into.

It's hard to explain without pictures, but this arrangement makes installation very flexible and easy. So whether its in an all-carbon helicopter, a boat, or even a metal cased battle-bot, the receiver can be placed in a proper postion for the model while allowing the antenna to get out to where it needs to be for the best signal.

Sounds just like the Futaba antennas but perhaps a bit longer which would be helpful in some cases. Same mounting scenarios too. You could probably refer to the Futaba manuals for instructions if in a huury??

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/21/2007 11:04:27 AM)

You could refer to Airtronics manuals in a hurry too. As we add radios, we add the manuals in pdf format to the Airtronics Website.
http://www.airtronics.net

Yep, it's a similar 2 antenna setup.

I had checked that site and didn't/don't see a manual for any of your FHSS offerings. That is why I suggested the Futaba manual, as a TEMPORARY solution. Obviously you will have FHSS manuals available soon.

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/21/2007 7:26:02 PM)

You're right. Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant.

What I kinda' meant was after the radio was released. I had made the jump in my head that people wouldn't really need antenna installation information before owning the radio.

Sorry, different point of view. I get your point. Yes, the Futaba installation (or any other two antenna receiver for 2.4GHz) is going to have very similar installation conditions.

As for the RDS8000 manual, it was just finished a few days ago and the pdf for web is being formatted now so we should have it up soon.

Hi Mike,
Any chance that we may see a prototype of the 10 channel radio by the time the WRAM show rolls around?
Pete

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/21/2007 11:05:00 PM)

10 channel prototype will most likely be debuted at Toledo, but that's not written in stone.

linkadrip -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/21/2007 11:42:20 PM)

What i dont understand is why this radio is such a secret and what i mean buy that is hobby peoples web site Doesn't even show it as one of the radios in there list of radio's if you type in rd 8000 in there search on the site you will get a list of radios that are the 72 mhz with a selection of several differnt frequencies. to get to the page that has this radio you have to use the link off here and then bookmark it.

How come tower hobbies isnt selling this radio and other web sites. when will the radio be in mass production? And be readily avaliable. when will i be able to buy this radio as easily as any other radio out there on the market with out a delay in receiving it.

As far as the 10 channel goes i wouldnt even think about it for another year. why is airtronics so slow on getting radios on the market when they already know there is a demand for the product?

there a well established company they should have a massive assembly line that will crank out these radios. I have been trying to find an 8 channel receiver for my Current RD8000 radio i was looking for the original rx that comes with the radio when it is new and cant find one.

So my main question is when is airtronics going to get the ball rolling?

Thanks
LInk

Link, while I agree it would be helpful to have the radio promoted on the front page as a "New Item", etc, to grab attention, I still found the radio pretty easily.

Scroll down to the bottom of the main HobbyPeople page. You'll see a Radio section on the front page where there is a link to "Synthesized/2.4g Plane/Heli radios". You'll find the RDS8000 listed there.

Receivers - I am not sure why it's hard for you to find 72mHz receivers. On the same HobbyPeople page, you'll see a link to receivers. Click on it and it lists several 8 channel Airtronics receivers that are in stock. I'm pretty sure that any hobby shop that sells Airtronics car radios could also order the receiver you need. In my experience, even hobby shops that don't carry a particular brand in stock are still able to get them for customers upon request.

i will have to look again thanks RC addiction[:)]

RCAddiction -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/22/2007 4:51:49 AM)

Glad to help, Link. Getting what we need from Airtronics should become easier now that it's being distributed by one of the major hobby distributors. I am pretty sure that we'll also see a lot more push on new products as well, right Mike??!!!!

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/22/2007 9:59:13 PM)

Name of the radio is RDS8000, not RD 8000, that probably was part of the challenge for searching for it.

For the 72MHz receiver, I'm not sure which model you're looking for, but several Airtronics radios were produced with the 94777 receiver which for some reason Airtronics USA never listed separately. We do offer it separately now. But it will take a little while to get it. For the RD 8000 most were shipped with the 94778z receiver. I'm sure if you search for 94778Z you'll find it.

I cannot control what Tower buys from us. I'm sure that once the radio is available they will list it and stock it. So far, they've stocked most of the other Airtronics equipment.

Production:Yes, Sanwa has a great factory. And, as the radio is geared up for full-production and goes through the QC process, production numbers will increase.
We should be in good shape for full-stock in February which is 45 days AHEAD of schedule.

As for other new radios, the ENTIRE aircraft line is being updated. Quality, like Rome, is not built in a day.

Mike

Well then in Febuary i will be looking to getting the new RDS 8000 radio great.[:D] And the search for an RX and the TX were much easyier using the methoods described. thanks appriciate it.

I'm sure hobby people will be cheaper to get it from, tower is kinda expensive on alot of things. but was just using them as an example, usually if its on there web site it a readly avaliable product easy to find almost anywere.[:)]

I just want to Order one and have it shipped to me dont want to have to wait around for it casue of back order. So i will wait till there out there.[:)]

TLH101 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/23/2007 2:17:23 AM)

So what will come first, 2.4 modules to fit a Stylus, or the new 10 channel system?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/24/2007 5:10:04 PM)

That's a bit of a contest. The Stylus replacement is now kicking into high gear, but while that's going on, the engineers will also be working on the Module for the Stylus (which should work with the same receiver used for the RDS8000...so that's already done)...

I know for sure, we'll get a new prototype of the Stylus replacement first, but development after that prototype will take awhile.

Both are promised to us in 2008 of course, but I'm not sure at this point which will come first.

Radio prices. Again, we do not control what Tower or any of our other dealers sell it for. I am sure that 229.99 is the price we advertised, but past that, it's up to the retailer.

Mike

Twizter68 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/26/2007 9:46:59 PM)

Mike, I'm sure I speak for most when I say we'd rather wait for quality, than settle for "now available, with bugs". I was an early adopter of 2.4 GHz (Spektrum), and had no problems until I got back into sailplanes.....then I ran into programming and signal limitations. A new RD8000 is on the way to remedy that problem, and to get me used to the programming of the RDS8000, once it is released.

Hi All,

I'm new to rc so I have a "dumb" question. But first I'd like to say that I read this entire post, [sm=spinnyeyes.gif] and I just ordered the RDS8000 from Hobby People.

I currently have the JR sx600, w/ the s400 trainer box. I'm happy w/ both by the way but...

Q: Can I use my JR s400 trainer box w/ this transmitter?

By the way, Thank you Mike for all the great info.

Dan

I currently dont have a Airtronics transmitter but I have not seen the trainer fuction
work across brands on any of the radios on the market.

rctrost -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/27/2007 6:27:39 PM)

Mike. I just ordered a RDS8000. Here's another "dumb" question. Will the trainer system and cord be compatable with my old but still reliable Radiant and even older but reliable Vanguard 4? Futaba has gone to a different trainer plug on their newer transmitters. Hopefully the old Airtronics trainer cord will still be usable on the RDS8000.

Thanks! Dick T.

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/27/2007 7:48:16 PM)

I am not sure about the Radiant and older Vanguard series. I will have to check.
We did add programming to the trainer system to make it compatible with the VG and RD series radios.

Typically trainer systems are not compatible between brands. There are some limited exceptions but it is generally the rule.

Mike
