I am not sure about the Radiant and older Vanguard series. I will have to check.
We did add programming to the trainer system to make it compatible with the VG and RD series radios.

Typically trainer systems are not compatible between brands. There are some limited exceptions but it is generally the rule.

Mike

Mike. I didn't intend to confuse the issue by mentioning Futaba. I brought it up because with their new trainer plug there are now three cord options; old to old, old to new & new to new.

My question was; is the RDS8000's trainer system is compatable with your older transmitters and if it is, will the original Airtronics trainer cord work. It's not a huge issue either way, just curious.
Thanks.

Hi all;

I"ve been following this thread with great interest for a while now.
Can't wait for the radio's availability!

This is a note to publicly thank Mike Greenshields for his quick and helpful response to my email.

I emailed Mike late last night with a few questions regarding the RDS8000 and about an RD6000 that I currently own.
Mike was gracious enough to respond to my inquiries this morning!

I think it says quite a bit about a company rep, as well as the company, that takes the time to personally answer a customer's questions.
This was a welcome change to the usual, "please contact ?? at ??, or "try our FAQ's."

Again, thank you Mike for your quick and courteous response!

Sorry. Other than TEASING you I can offer no further details. I know it sucks, but on the other hand I think Airtronics fans deserve to know that the Stylus is being replaced with a better, more powerful radio.

Will this new 10 channel radio also be available in Europe (over here they are named Sanwa) in a 35 Mhz version, and of course in 2,4 GHz ?

Best Regards,
Anders

Hello Mike, I too have pre-ordered my RDS 8000.............in regards to the receiver antenna and carbon fiber....

1) Will a fiberglass fuselage have any issues with the system?

2) Would Carbon fiber wing tubes have any affect?

Thanks Peter

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (12/30/2007 8:17:20 AM)

I cannot speak for what Sanwa releases in Europe. I have trouble enough keeping up with what we're doing here.

However, I am under the assumption that in some form, what is being made for us, is also intended for their world market.

2.4GHz rules vary from country to country, even in Europe, so I'm not sure what modulation will be available in your country. Your agent there, or the major Sanwa Agents in Europe are probably a better source of info than I am.

Carbon and Fiberglass. So far all of our testing shows that fiberglass seems not to be much of a problem.
A carbon spar or two and some tubes seems to be no problem either. The antennas are long enough that you can position them away from any obstacles in your fuselage anyway.

A solid carbon fuselage, however, will be a problem and you'll have to put the antennas outside of the carbon in that instance and still it might affect range according to placement and other conditions.

Mike
Happy New year.. Just checking in to see if you think some time around the 15th is still likely for release .. Also will you be at the AMA show with the radio?

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/4/2008 4:38:55 AM)

I will be at the AMA Convention. We will be showing the Radio. Exact release date of the RDS8000 is now up to shippers, handlers, customs agents, and other red-tape gov't types.

We're getting there!

Hey Mike, I hope you had a good holiday. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my RDS. The first "victims" will be a Tiger 60 with OS 91 four stroke, and a Seagull Dual Ace with twin Thunder Tiger 46s. Can't wait. I'll let you know how it goes.
Skip D

metalmetal67 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/4/2008 10:03:05 PM)

I am awaiting my RDS as well. It will be tested in My Greatplanes 1/4 Scale Patty Wagstaff with a gasoline 45cc Homelite conversion running a magneto. Plane flew perfect with my RD 8000 in PCM. If all goes well it will then go in my 35% Cap 232 running a 3W 120.

awburris -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/5/2008 2:57:40 AM)

Mike,
Do you have to use Airtronics servos with the reciever that is going to come with the Radio?

TMooreATX -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/5/2008 5:35:28 AM)

No you don't.

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/5/2008 6:36:17 AM)

Terry's right. The current Z (blue) connector Airtronics uses is the same wiring order and plug size as the others..

mike,

Any informatin about smaller, cheaper recievers that swana/airtronics are planning on bringing to market for their 2.4gh system?

This was my next question? Thanks!

The stock 8 channel receiver is 18 grams or so with the case on and can be operated with the case removed (heatshrink required of course).
So, in it's stock form, with full range, etc. you can have a 12 gram receiver which is good for all things EXCEPT sub-micro helis and indoor 3D foamies (you can use a 12 gram receiver, but most people want to save the extra grams to get a micro...)

Airtronics has a MOUNTAIN of work ahead of them. We all agree that a micro 6 or even a 4 is a must. The ONLY thing we haven't decided on is the time frame.

We're in the midst of making many new radios, approximately 8 servos, (lots of other support items) and some of those products are very R&D dept intensive. I'm not saying it's not important. It is!

I'm just saying that with so much going on, we're actually still working on a time frame for all of it. And, at this point, I do not have an exact time frame.

I will know more about dates, etc. after I meet with them next month in Germany at the Nuremberg Toy Fair.

On another subject, I'm working on a FAQ file for the RDS8000. Obviously there's lots of great questions here that I will be using a starting point. But, if anyone has any suggestions on questions they'd like answered in an FAQ format, please let me know!

Just PM me here at RCU

Thank you

Hey Mike, I know that sometimes keeping track of all this forum stuff can be a pain. But I would like to say thank you for all your time and effort. I am looking forward to reading/participating in the FAQS. Thanks again, Skip D

metalmetal67 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/6/2008 2:58:58 AM)

Yea Mike, It's hard to come by a pat on the back, you deserve one for keeping up with this forum. Thanks from all us Airtronics guys.

kenvs -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/6/2008 5:12:27 PM)

Ok I took a leap of faith and bit on the back ordered radio from Hobby People. I did a lot of research, reading reviews from everybody I could find, reading forum threads like this one, PMing people and compiling what I found. Bottom line is I could not find an 8 channel 2.4GHz heli radio w/the rated performance, quality, value and user knowledge base anywhere else.

Thanks to the kindness of you guys replying to my PMs and Mike Greenshield's vast insight on the development of this radio and I suppose other Airtronics products, I feel comfortable with the purchase.

Mike in a previous entry on this thread mentioned product development of new servos. I am in the market for a completely new set-up for my T-rex 600 and am wondering how the Airtronics servos stack up against the JR DS8717s for this application? How about a tail gyro/servo comparable to the JR G7703D/S8900? Sorry if I'm navigating the outer boundaries of this thread, but nothing helpful turned up during a search for this info. Thanks guys.

Ken

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/6/2008 10:09:42 PM)

Our helicopter pilots are mostly using the 94758 for cyclic on 600 size or bigger heli's at the moment.

There are 3 new digital servos coming in a couple of months that will give you a wider selection of torque/speed ratings in a digital format.
They are the 94771, 94772, and 94773.

I believe at least one of these servos will cover what you're looking for in a cycle servo.

An Ultra-high speed tail rotor servo is still a little ways off, however I think for many people the 94771 will do the job.

The good news is that our radio is compatible with anyone's servo, generally speaking, so you are never "locked" in...

As for the Radio, we have pilots like Terry Moore who's online a lot helping people if they need it, we have an 800 phone line for those who need help and can't find it locally, and in the So CA area, we have other pilots like Jeff Fassbinder out flying the radio at major events pretty regularly.

So, you've got a lot of experienced heli pilots ready to help you:)

Mike

Bob Paris -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/8/2008 7:01:16 AM)

Hi Guys...
I've been an Airtronics user for 20 years and bought my first Module 7SP after Kraft went under. I have flown mostly their 94102 and 94322 servos, and have only good things to say about this equipment. I've also flown their micro servo's and receivers...all with excellent results.

The customer support has been outstanding, and repair costs, very reasonable. My only grip has been trying to understand the programing for the Stylus Tx...but I must also state that each and every time I needed help...Jack came through with the fix. He is a good guy, knows his stuff and will not leave you until your Tx is programed to your requirements. To me...customer service is everything, and why I've stayed with Airtronics for so many years.

I can't wait to order their 12 channel Tx...on 2.4, and a module set for my Stylus Tx I've owned for eight years.

Happy New years to everyone...

Soft Landings always,
Bobby of Maui
