well..that has finally sold me on Airtronics....I"ll order an RD8000 to start with and then a RDS8000 when my larger models start to get built :)

Thanks.

Hi Mike,
The manufacturers behind Airtonics are sharp! Give us your assurance
that your designers have avoided the current Futaba bug. Being prudent is
strenght behind a good product, as Airtronics is!

I am not sure what you mean by the current "Futaba" Bug.
We are doing everything to be "Prudent". I promise :)

Apparently a few (or more) sets got out without assigning a discrete GUID number. This is causing some RX's to operate from more than 1 TX simultaneously. A matter Futaba will correct but the JR/Spektrum shills are enjoying it. [:'(]

GJr. -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/10/2008 3:20:24 AM)

Is there some information or postings that tell what the difference between the Airtronics 2.4 operating system (FHSS?), the one used by JR/Spektrum systems (DSSS), and the Futaba system (FASST)? I would like to know the key differences and reasons for using.
Thanks.

One thing is that theJR/Spektrums "choose" 2 frequencies at turn on and remain on those 2 frequencies as long as "on". New frequencies MAY be used for the next operation cycle. Both the Airtronics and the Futaba use versions of frequency hopping. Perhaps hopping on different predetermined frequencies within the 2.4 band and/or at different rates of change.

kenvs -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/13/2008 4:31:52 PM)

Does anyone have any idea as to whether the Great Planes / Real Flight controller adapter cord for Airtronics Part # GPMZ4062 will work with the RDS8000?

Capt. Crackup -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/14/2008 11:31:02 AM)

Hey Mike, Word has it that the new RDSs are at the Hobby Shops / Dealers and are awaiting final approval from the FCC. Once that is obtained they will begin shipping to customers. Any word on your side? Also in your experience, how long does it take to get FCC approval? Thanks. Skip D

MikeGreenshields -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/14/2008 7:35:36 PM)

Testing is actually done, it's just paperwork. I like to cross the t's and dot the i's, so until I have the paper in-hand, we cannot release radios. And I cannot control FCC or the testing company. They know we need it asap and I assume we'll have it very soon. But, I'm not putting a date on it.

bigedmustafa -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/23/2008 1:13:45 AM)

Hopefully you remembered to manufacture the transmitters and receivers with unique identifications and didn't make a big run of units that were all keyed to "000000000000000." [:D]

I'm looking forward to hearing back from folks who pre-ordered early and will get the first units!

seanucd2000 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/23/2008 1:27:55 AM)

I'm itching to get one of these radios when they come out. I have a bunch of Tower gift certificates I've been saving specifically for this radio. It's good to see tower finally shows them on their web site. However, if unless they don't significantly lower the price, I'll be looking to buy elsewhere. I have a feeling they have the price that high since if it was lower, they would never sell anything made by Futaba!

Capt. Crackup -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/23/2008 10:00:56 AM)

I have completed my Dual Ace 46, and it is ready for my new RDS. Can't wait. Skip D

Joe69 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/24/2008 2:47:11 AM)

Good to know that Airtronics also come to 2.4G, but they use the RD8000 plastic case that is not very appealing. In fact the design is very dated since the day it launched a few years back. I think the very old Infinity 660 looks a lot better. [;)]

mike early -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/24/2008 4:07:33 AM)

Does this radio have wheel/slider for flaps? or a 3(or more) position switch?

GotSky -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/24/2008 4:47:42 AM)

The RD8000's have a 3 position switch

Hi Mike,

YIPPEE!!! I hear you're filling backorders!!! [:D]

I didn't order my RDS800 until after the Xmas holidays; fishing for gift certificates ysee. [:D] So now my backorder is 'way back. Don't know how much longer I can hold my breath. [:-]

Hey Charlie, Where did you here HP is filling backorders? Hopefully it is true. I ordered a RDS 8000 and extra receiver from Hobby Club on 5 Dec. I also ordered another receiver yesterday. Can't wait to get it. I've bben hearing good things about this Radio, sounds like it'll be worth the wait. Anybody hear any rumors about Hobby Club shipping yet?

Later Skip D

Saw something about it on another thread. I Emailed Hobby People about it. They replied that the first shipments were coming in and they're filling BOs. They just haven't gotten to me yet. I sold my Futaba 6EX FASST system. If HP operates like Horizon you may get yours before I get mine. [:o]

Hey Charlie, Hopefully niether you or me will have to wait much longer. I still have my radio though. It's a Futaba 6XAs that I've had for probably 9-10 years. I'll sell it when my RDS comes in. Can't wait. Good luck on yours. Skip D

http://www.airtronics.net/wheretobuy.asp

List includes several Canadian dealers.

I'd emailed airtronics last year about service for Canadian users (just had a Stylus that hadn't been checked in a while so was 'due') and didn't receive any response after several attempts. This, and Airtronics failure to move quickly to 2.4, prompted me to switch over fully to JR (I had previously flown JR and Airtronics); I've sold my Stylus. The Stylus is still my all time favorite tx, I'd consider getting Airtronics again (whatever the successor to the Stylus is) but only if there's some backing on the support and service side. It seems the North American presence is shaky to say the least!

mike early -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/30/2008 2:32:04 PM)

Unfortunately I do not have a decent radio to help me through this wait...so I broke down and bought a DX7.

I had flown Airtronics radios for many years, had no problem with their service. You might have had better luck if you'd tried the Airtronics users group on Yahoo. Perhaps things declined in recent years, after I went to Hitec flite packs and finally to the Eclipse 7 w/Spectra module.

Recently Hobby People became the US distributor for Airt; seems HP got Sanwa off their butts in the R&D dept. HP claims that Sanwa is reinvigorated under younger management now. I've heard that there may be a new Stylus in the works. We can hope.

In the meantime the RDS8000 seems to me to be the way to go with FHSS systems. I like the frequency hopping and the dual antennea approach in a single receiver package. I also like the full-fledged RDS8000 transmitter. Much more capability than the Futaba 6EX FASST, which I think was a rush to market on Futaba's part.

Charley -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/30/2008 4:31:04 PM)

I'm frustrated by Hitec's lagging behind on a 2.4 Gig module and Rx for my Eclipse 7. That foolish expectation was one of the reasons I bought the Eclipse.

bruce88123 -> RE: *Airtronics RD8000 2.4 GHz* (1/30/2008 7:09:44 PM)

Saw a picture of RCKen's new RDS8000 last night. Antennas look about twice as long as Futaba's so it should be easier to place them as desired or needed. Maybe even get them outside a carbon fuselage. Note: Leads are longer but actual antenna portion about the same as Futaba.
