IMHO, the best bang for the buck really boils down to bucks. All the .60 machines will do sport flying aerobatics in stock form and with minimal mods can be as wild or 3d capable as THEIR OPERATORS.

I can think of three really good values. (1) Ergo .60 sport. (2) X-cell sport trainer. (3) Raptor 60v2

The Ergo and the X-cell are both VERY high quality all metal machines despite their low price tags. They both have excellent parts support from two of the biggest players in the heli market, and they both have a HUGE selection of cool looking and sometimes usefull upgrades. While no one would pick them first as the most wildly aerobatic birds, I think only the top 2% of heli pilots would be limited by these machines capabilities.

Although I've never owned one, the Raptor is touted as being THE wildly aerobatic machine. Its claim to fame is cheap initial cost, cheap repair cost, and excellent flight performance. It is a "plastic fantastic" and has had some design/durability issues but still remains and excellent value. If your into thrash, crash, and rebuild...this might be the best choice for you.

Hope this helps
Michael

I've been researching that market also as I have had the urge for a new 60 size. After seeing Mark Fadley wring out a stock Fury at the IRCHA Jamboree last fall I've found the machine that meets my criteria. I don't think there is much out there that delivers more machine for the dollar. Yes, there are cheaper machines and there are better machines. For the money I think the Fury Expert is at the top in my estimation.

I fly TSKs and would expect a top notch machine and was wanting something from them. With them out of business for now I had to start looking elsewhere.

I bought a Raptor 60 and after looking it over decided to sell it. It's not what I'd want in a 60 size machine.

Just my opinion and not the definitive last word....

Freya 60: $675 w/o blades
Raptor60: $490 w/wood blades (about a $40 value)

No argument, the Freya is an excellent machine from a top notch manufacturer with parts and support to boot, but the bang for the buck argument is not as easily made.

Raptor, engine, and blades for about the same as Freya kit w/o blades? Tough sell for me.

I've had both at the same time, and the choice was easy, Freya. I don't care if I could get the raptor for $200 cheaper, it was not worth it to me. IMHO

The Fury basic is also in the same price range as a Raptor, Ergo, and ST. It is also a nice flying machine. But for the extra $150 it is not hard decision to move up to an Expert.

I've owned 13 different helis in my short 2.5 years of flying them (JR,TT, X-CELL, Robbe, Kalt, Hirobo). It always comes down to one thing, what YOU like.

Fitenfyr hit on an excellent point: no matter what .60 machine you opt for, they are ALL SIGNIGICANTLY MORE EXPENSIVE TO FLY, FUEL, AND CRASH than a 30. Lets not forget servos, and I use a gallon of 30% every weekend.

The differrence in KIT cost between a Raptor or Freya may be $200, but when you look at the total cost of getting into a .60 (engine, servos, muffler, etc) this difference in kit price starts to become less significant (about 10-15% of total turn key price according to my quick calcs).

The guys above have it right. The cost difference in the kits are not that much looking at the big picture.I spent $2200 on my Fury and Freya. And when they crash, it is much more to fix.

Maybe another option is a .50 class machine. The Raptor and Sceadu both fly better than my .30 size machines and are much cheaper to dork. My last oops with the Sceadu set me back $120 with SAB 600 CF Blades ($85). My Sceadu set me back $1500 to get it in the air. It doesn't burn as much fuel and is a blast to fly.

Just another option

Johnny9390,

what X-cell 60 do you have now?? (from you other posts)

I'd put my #1 bid in on a new Fury for 60 class

Raptor 60 (you get what you pay for here, maybe less.)
IMO:
Ace's Raptor 60 was a strike out.
Ace's Raptor 30 was a home run
And their new 50 Kit is going to be a grand slam (serious bang for the buck!! Cheap to fly and Cheap to fix!)

just my 2 cents,
Jeff

The biggest bang for your buck it has to be the X-cell SE. it has it all full metal head and thats just the start. its also one of the lightest 60's out there next to the fury.

I am currently flying an Xcell 60 custom. This is an older kit. still a nice one.. it is the 1004 model with the torque tube drive push pull on everything. But it has the bent frame.. I dont know why though everyone is telling me to upgrade to carbon stacked frames, but correct me if I am wrong , didn't Curtis Youngblood fly for many years a bent frame xcell??

Johnny, he did; but he also "doubled" the upper frames to make them stiffer.

Free stuff? I imagine he got more than a few "freebies" from MA. Then he became the world's first truly professional model helicopter pilot, by virtue of being paid a salary in exchange for his knowledge and flying skill.

I guess that annoys some folks...

I am just gonna keep upgrading my xcell. It seems MA will be around for many many years. So I dont think I need to sell mine to get a better one. I just make the one I have " a better one" right??

I'm not into flipping and flopping, so the only thing about the Fury that interests me is the easier access to the engine. Pulling and re-installing the engine on my ST is a significant rectal discomfort that I avoid if at all possible. And like was noted above, when you dork one ya gotta re-kit it to make sure nothing you can't see is bent. I'm far past the casual crash stage, so unless something breaks I feel pretty confident I won't plant it. There is an upside to not pushing one's abilities..

IMO, the basic X-Cell with a 0832 kit (which locks in the t/r pinion) will do just about anything you or I could ask of it. I have very few 'upgrades' on my ST, and it for damn sure flies better than I can hold it.

Like the fellow said on another thread, if you're into the "thrash, crash, and re-build" mode, then an X-Cell probably isn't the best thing to have. But I have been fortunate enough to have been able to examine and fly just about everything out there today, and have owned at least one of every major brand except Hirobo and Schluter. After all of that, I fly two X-Cells. They work for me. And I'm certainly not sponsored for ANYTHING...

most of the midrange 60's fly really well, you may want to consider which machine will last w little or no issues, along with crash parts cost.and general support for the machine in case any issues arise, and what youre budget is.funny thing about helis is you either spend now or spend more later as youre flying progresses...........my biased opinion is to go for a freya, its good bang for the buck, flys well, parts are plentiful, and you dont need to upgrade the heck out of it..........think about what the guys near you fly as it will be easier to get help if neccessary.......

I'm in the same position. I have a X cell 60 custom and I see
all these new ships out there. I've spoke to Gary,Cliff, and
many others here in FL and it seems that I need to just fly
what I have till I can fly it better than it can perform before
I think about moving on to a new bird.

Thanks again to all who add to the thread, you all have good
points.
For now I think my best inverstment is fuel and flowers for
my wife(for the sorry I miss dinner again/flying sessions)
