chillpillz -> 977 wont charge!!! (8/20/2007 2:25:49 AM)

Hey I need some serious help. I am trying to charge my 2200mah 11.1 lipos but about a min into the charge cycle it beeps and switches to trickle. The voltage they are currently at while Im trying this is 9.7. My charge settings are 2.2amps 25mv 3cell 2200mah and no timer settings. I have tried all the different mv settings and no difference. The most I have seen the amp output hit while charging is 0.20 amps and it zeros after about 1 min, then if I go back to the voltage screen it will begin to drop and wont let me stop charge. Also I dont know if this is normal but if I disconnect a battery from the charger, the whole thing shuts off and a multimeter at the power supply shows no voltage. I have to unplug the whole thing for a minute and plug it back in for it to kick on again. This thing is new, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help!!!

I have a 977 that I use to charge a 1300 mah 11.1 lipo with. I don't do any changes to the charger. All I do is plug the charger in, plug in the lipo and hit start. It works for me. As far as I know the 977 can tell the type and size of the battery. I let mine do it's own thing and it worked for me. the lipo never got hot while charging and the 977 stoped charging on it's own. I know the lipo's will burn at 2000 deg. if they flame up. That is why I got the 977, the stock charger that came with my helo will not stop charging when it is full. hope this helps.

I just tried that, the voltage went from 9.56 up to 9.76 then it dropped to trickle and the voltage dropped steadily to 9.30 and was still dropping when i disconnected the battery. I had to disconnect it because the charger wouldnt let me stop the charge, I pushed the start/stop button but the voltage keeps dropping and beeping about once per second.

It sounds like the power supply is bad. Check the voltage at the output leads of the power supply and see what voltage is coming out. Does the charger power up with just the power supply hooked up?

The output at the ps is right around 12.5v. When I plug the charger into the wall it powers up, then I attach a battery. As soon as I disconnect the battery after trying to charge it, the whole charger shuts off. I can plug a battery in after it does this and it will show me the voltage, but none of the buttons work. I have to disconnect it from the ps for 30-60 seconds and plug it back in before it will turn on again.

It sounds like there is definitely something wrong with the power supply. When the charger shuts down after the charge and the screen goes blank, take a voltage reading at the power supply. I have a feeling that it'll be dead. Send in the power supply and I'll replace it for you.

yeah I forgot to say that. There is no power after I pull the battery and it shuts off.

So it looks like the power supply will hold voltage but not when there is a current draw. Send it to me and I'll replace it for you.
