i eventually want to upgrade my HBK II. what kind of brushless motor, esc and battery setup do u guys recommend. For the battery, i want to be able to use the stock Li-Po charger. I guess it is a balance charger...so, besides Mah ratings, what type of battery do u reccomend...bc i heard of things like 3cell or 2p1s...and things like 12c/15c boost...what do all these mean....the only thing i really know is that Mah is the amount of juice available...and the more of it... = more power and longer flight times...

i want to be kinda cheap with this....i dont need 20min flight times and super quality everything....but i want the upgrade to be worth it. i plan on doing inverted/3D flight...etc...and i hope i can get 10-12 min flight time.....is it possible to get all these 3 things for $80 or less??

Battery / ESC / Brushless for less than 80$? I think you will be pushing it. A decent battery alone will be 50+ and the Brushless/ESC will be at least 50+.

The standard Esky Brushless will work fine with small modification. You may try to PM Betapilot and see if he has anymore combos left to sell, I'm not sure.

All you need to worry about for a battery is 11.1v and more than 1100-1200mah, any of the big brand names will work. Just watch the sizes. Thunderpower makes one that will fit, I think, check Helidirect.com under batteries and heli upgrades.

PolyQuests 20Cs fit right in (from my fixed wingers). BTW, fixed wingers have remained fixed on my bench since I got my HBK 2. HA!!!

yeah, but what batteries will be compatible with the esky charger that HBKII came with? i guess the batteries need to have the balance charge plug? (4 wires?) also, what is the deal with the cell configurations....i think the stock batt is a 3 cell..is that the only type i can use or what?

also, whats this mumbo jumbo about like 1s2p, etc is that how the cells are wired?? 1series 2 parallel? etc does it matter what kind i get? like will it be compatible with my charger or is there a performance difference?

also.....does like 10c, 12c boost, etc mean how much power it feeds out at a time??....what rating do you reccomend, bc i saw a guy with one that was 25c, 50c boost....is that only a battery for extreme 3-d and that costs hundreds of $$?

thanks again for the help and excuse my noobish questions

In order to charge off the standard Esky charger, all the new pack needs is the 4-pin balance charge lead, thats correct. However, you nee to remember a few things.

1.) A standard HBKII battery is 800mah, if I remember correctly. The Esky charger is .75a output. Thats about an hour-ish to charge the battery, .75a is almost 1C for an 800mah battery.

Now, bearing that in mind, the Esky charger will charge ANY batter of ANY capacity that has the 4-pin balance charge plug, but, lets just say you have a 1800mah battey.

1C for an 1800mah battery would be 1.8a, of which your Esky charger can create roughly 1/3. That means it's gonna take a LONG time to charge a bigger battery on that Esky charger. I doubt you would EVER have an 1800mah on a HBKII, it was just an example.

2.) Sooner or later, you are going to want to buy a faster/better charger, just keep that in mind. I recommend Triton 2/Triton Jr, so that you can charge from a JST connector or a Deans, without having to use the balance plug lead.

That allows you to actually charge at 1C if you are in a hurry while clicking in an external balancer if you so choose (I don't, i've found it to be completely unneccesary on the packs I run, thats another story, but suffice to say I've never had cells more than a tenth of a volt apart and I never use a balancer.)

Forget all about the 10C/20C/Boost nonsense.

Find a battery with at least 10-15C discharge that fits in the HBKII without adding a ton of weight. I would stay under 175g if possible, preferably less than that. None of those other numbers concern you at this point, trust me, it's just going to cost you more money.

Stock battery is 1000Mah and 10c.
3S1P means the amount of cells and how its wired. 3S= 3 cells in series 3x3.7 volts=11.1. The battery is a one parallel circuit. Some bigger batteries are 2x11.1 batteries in one.
But enough of that, the HBK2 needs an 11.1v LiPo in the 1000-2200 Mah, but keep the battery weight as low as possible like Bzinfinity and try not to go over 175gr (heavier than I run, I run 135gr battery). 10-15 C rating is just fine. I don't think this heli can pull more than that rating even with upgrades. If you did perform 3D stunts that required this, it would most likely break IMO.
As for chargers, I can deal with small Lipo's up to 800mah on the stock Esky charger. About an hour charge time. For larger LiPo's get a good charger and balancer to get faster charges (remember, you'll only get as fast as about an hour since fast charging is generally limited to the Mah rating of the battery on LiPo's). I run a EFlite Celectra 1-3 cell adjustable 2 amp charger & an Astro Blinky balancer.
