I am interested in the century line of .30 size heli's and I was wondering the difference between the hawk sport and the se v2 and the raven?
First of all is the sport just an se v2 without the upgrades? If so is it possible to upgrade the sport to the se v2? Finally, is the Raven just a ccpm version of the se v2 if not what is it?
Thanks for the help.
Greg

Yes, you can upgrade the Sport to the Hawk SE or the Raven 30.

But, in the end, it would cost you a lot more then just buying the Hawk SE.

The Hawk SE is really more related to the Falcon SEV2 then the Hawk Sport. It has everything the Falcon SEV2 has (composite rotor blades, metal main rotor hub, full metal swashplate, metal lower frames with the fuel tank almost right under the mainshaft, 6mm spindle with thrust bearings, bearings on everything, machined clutch bell, triple bearing tail rotor etc.) except it does not have slipper clutch, the torque tube drive or the heavy duty low profile landing gear. These can all be added though.

The Raven 30 is much more like a eCCPM cross between the Hawk Sport and the Hawk SE.

For a more detailed comparison of them to each other (and to other 30 size helis) you can reference the spread sheet comparisons on nitroburners web site (a lot of neat stuff there).

Greg,
I see your are close to Larks. I will be at the Mayday FF with my Raven 50 CCPM and hopefully my Predator Max. You can get at good look at what Century has to offer on the upper end of their line.

As for 30's are you looking to get started or just want a good 30 in replacement or addition?

I would like to recommend you take a look at the Falcon 50 SE V2 or Raven 50 CCPM. The Hawk SE actually is a Falcon 30 SE V2(there's no such thing but that's what I like to call it ). It just doesn't have the slipper,4mm flybar, and CF torque tube like the Falcon does. So, from a dollar standpoint the Falcon SE V2 is a much better buy.

If you think you will be going the 3D route then I HIGHLY recommend you get the Raven series. The 30 is a decent place to start but again you get way more for you $$ if you go with the 50.

Now, if all you want to do is learn to fly and do so as cheaply as possible then go with the Hawk Sport. It is a good machine and fully capable for the beginner to mild 3D. But, if your thinking long term and wanting to do 3D then try to spend ahead of yourself here. Go with one of the machines that has more features because Century gives them away cheaper when you buy then IN THE KIT!

Nope, it's still available. They are reportedly changing it to be a "Falcon 30 SE V2" because in reality that is what it is.

Nope, they HAVE discontinued the Hawk SE II and are PLANNING to replace it with a helo called the Falcon 30 in the future, they don't have a guess on when the Falcon 30 will be available though. To get as close as I can to a SE I had to order a Hawk Sport, aluminum side frame upgrade kit, bearing upgrade kit and Funkey blades(out of stock currently). FYI they still show the SE on their web site even though they don't have any or carry them anymore.

Evan,
Call them up and ask for Dennis. I think I talked to him in the past about something on the WS and he cleared it up.

I couldn't imagine what they are doing to the Hawk SE but it must be good. I would wait on trying to convert a Sport. You will overun the cost of the kit by a long shot.

It would be better to get the Raven 30. I don't know what your flying goals are gut for 3D that heli is a MUCH better choice than the Hawk SE.

Dennis is who called me when I ordered the SEII. We went through and picked out the SE upgrades to put onto a Sport to get where I want to be, came out cheaper that the web price for the SEII because we started with the cheaper Sport. I think I'm going to also order a Sceadu since I really like how my modified Freya/ OS.91 flies.

I've had the SE for over 3 years flying it with a couple of upgrades. I do fly 3-D and with a .46 in it, geared correctly, it's a hot little 3-D'er. I love it but the solder joint on the receiver antennae for the pin that gets plugged into the base loaded antenna broke from 3 years worth of flying and I happened to get it far enough away from me and lost signal(about 30 yards). That'll teach me to do my 3-D lower and closer!!! In the 3 years of flying it never hit the ground, even had the original blades on it and I flew the snot out of it!!

Nothing beats a heli that gives you non-stop low issue flying! Great success story!

I've built and flown the replacement for my SE. I ordered a Hawk sport, the aluminum frame sets, bearing upgrades, 6mm spindle, and fiberglass blades. Turned out cheaper than the Hawk SE II woould have been and flys great.

As a side note my wife said why don't I order a nicer helo if I want one( I also have a .91 powered Freya very upgraded) so I got a Sceadu/ OS .50 combo from Heliproz too. This requires higher end servos and all and isn't really is the same class as the hawk but it'll be a good comparisson. It took four days, about 18 hours to put the ARF hawk together( I re put everything together) and after 5 hours the kit Sceadu is together except engine radio and linkages...

18 hrs????? Good Lordie I built my Falcon SE V2 in 6 hrs including radio setup. My Raven 50 took less in the build than that but more initial CCPM setup took longer. I did it in the same amount of time.

What the heck took so long?

BTW, for the price of the Sceadu you should have gotten a Predator SE. But, if you like Hirobo then a Sceadu and Freya makes sense.

Well what took so long was a lot of little things, I disassembled every nut and bolt, thread locked everything and size balls etc. I don't really understand it either, the first night for three hours all I got done was from the swash up. It took well over an hour for the tail rotor pitch push rod. It surprised me too. And I didn't have to do any radio setup even since the whole thing was a drop in from the SE and the programing was identical.
