hi all,
ok so i got an hbk2 that was new but wrecked due to owner plugging battery in w/out turning on tx first...wrecked main blades, bent feathering pin, broken L ball on swash, smoked esc & smoked motor. also had REDICULOUSLY loose grips like it was missing some spacers or something so the grips would move apart like 1/4 inch or so! NICE!
so after getting & installing : eflite 370 brushless, phoenix esc, ar7000, 290mm axe cp blades, t-rex 450 black skid set & black carbon fin set, t-rex 450 feathering pin & head dampners & spacers, i got the thing in the air FINALLY after finding dx7 programming info. so the thing had insane speed, noise & power! i also found out that once in the air about a foot ANY movement down on the throttle stick almost flings the machine to the ground! so this has been interesting to say the least!
so does anyone (Betapilot) know just how much is t-rex compatible, and if there is also any other swash/head i can use without online ordering/waiting?
also, the main thing - today (1st day after installing motor) i was showing my buddy the spin & was holding the heli and powered about up to halfway when ALL OF A SUDDEN (!) there was this change in sound pitch then WHAM! the motor just stopped dead! the thing would not turn at all & was like stuck right there! it was doing that higher pitch sound when i was just testing it last nite & i noticed that the whole motor would, like, tilt slightly & the high pitch would sound. so i made this brace-thing between the motor & the main shaft part of the frame & it worked good untill today's incident.
is the 4100 speed motor just too much for it? it flies the blade cp pro & the hbk2 is way more heli than that, so i dont think it is, but, how do you prevent this tilt thing? also my main gear is not perfectly true like my t-rex, is there a beefier gear i can get or what?
BETAPILOT, please help me since i can not seem to find your contact info directly, i am john@myjbm.com & 772 708 3446 & willing to pay for help since i really LOVE this heli, just like my rex only smaller! also would like to know how to mod my rex canopy to fit!
thanks for reading, any/all replys welcome to my email, fone & this post are GREATLY appreciated & ecouraged from all who can help!
john

Seems like you have a lot of parts, some from other helis. I believe the EFlite motor has way to much RPM and the load was greater than the motor usually sees from a Blade CP. The blades you have are larger, more load also. I believe a good alternate is the Heli-Max Carbon blades. They are 275mm and come with parts to fit 2.5 or 3mm bolts and spacers for blade holder. I haven;t gotten my hands on them yet, but looking at them since they are more commonly found. I haven't tried any Trex 450 head parts on a HBK2 or seen what can transfer. One thing I do know, you mention the DX7. I founds you have to get the pitch curve adjusted correctly for high rpm motors or head speed. It will lift and hover, but a slight change in throttle & it will drop like a rock. I flattened both pitch and throttle right at the misdtick position to get a smooth lift & descent. Ad for the TRex parts. I had some tail blades, but took them off. Seem to have too much force in the tail area. Also the Trex 450 canopy should fit. I posted a pic of one earlier on the HBK2. I think Beta is using Shogun canopies in his mod HBK2 units. Let me know what you found out on the seized motor.

ok, the load difference i would think is evened out due to the larger blades & trex skids, but wouldnt a smaller motor with the 290 size blades & larger skids be overloaded more? thats why i went with the 4100kv instead of the 3800kv, more weight & bigger blades mean more power needed right? i could be wrong, but it just makes sense to me.
please send me the dx settings you use as i am a noob with the dx still, getting better but curves just only make sense on my wife....

Looks like you throw the Align tail and rudder fins on. How is your CG? I you running stock battery or slightly larger? I found the main gears can get a wobble after a crash or blade strike. I tiewrap the ESC to the side frame next to the battery. I have some posts in the HBK2 tuner thread I believe. Are you hanging the battery like a Trex on the modded front frame holder?

The motor speed doesn't make is bigger. The Eflite motor I believe is smaller than the 3100, 3900 & the 3800Kv ESky motors. I sent you some settings I have for my DX7 with the 3900 & 9 tooth pinion. It should be smoother. Remember to come up slowly at first with the throttle. The settings I had tried was from someone running a 3100Kv, not a 3900. Motor would come on very hard at first. Not good for the main gear. I now set the curve to come on more aggressive to 25% and mild at the middle to high for better control. Took some pitch out also. Starts at -1 to -2 and goes to 5-6 deg positive only. This is the norm setting. No ST1 or 2 yet. I also through a Futaba 3114 servo on the tail with the HH gyro. Maybe these settings tomorrow, as I readjusted the DX7 settings after some hover practice with the lift and throttle curves. Trying to get a controllable NORM setting program for now.

btw, how do you keep the motor from tilting under load, as i think that is what started this whole mess?!

i am having a hard time understanding this motor talk, maybe because it is so late. is the park 370 more power or less than the esky 3800kv ? what size is the 3800 ? how do i translate to eflite or other brands as far as size goes, 340, 370, 400 etc?

I haven't gotten any solid comparisons of what is what in all the motor sizes yet. I do know I look at speed, efficiency & amp draw of motor. Generally, a higher amp draw has more torque. Plus some other ratings I looked at are the weight load. The Eflite is made for aircraft in the 280–400gr range. The HBK2 is out of that range. I believe the RPMs will drop once load hits this and it will run hotter generally and burn out. This is the same for the stock bruushed motor IMO.
