I made some good progress over the last few days. I finished and glued the leading and trailing edges and the wing tip caps on both wings. I have the root caps shaped but will wait until I set the incidence to glue them. I also got to edge glue the rest of the foam cores skins and cut them per the plans. I will have the stabs sheeted by tomorrow night and I hope to get to the rest of the cores by friday evening. I am not looking forward to cutting the control surfaces from the cores so I am trying to do everything else but that. I should have more pics posted by the friday evening.
I have a question for Carden owners. Has anyone had experience with Carden's hardware kit. I looked at the clevis setup and it looks to me that they could seperate under heavy loads ( if you have seen the kit, you might see what I am getting at). Any suggestions as far as what you guys are using for linkage setups? Thanks.

Rocket City type hardware. John at Aeroprotect.com is a great source for hardware.

Thank you for taking the time to post pictures of your progress. I'm following it!! Just like you, I've thought about putting one of these together but just haven't done it yet. You are inspiring me though.

Thanks for the info ibow24. I will check it out. Hey nsmjim, thanks for the post. I actually enjoy doing this thread. I would like to do more pics of the various steps but I only get alittle time each evening to build. Don't think twice about trying this. Everything has been of great quality and it's easy enough as long as you take your time and think things out and have the right tools ( you don't need a fancy workshop packed with power tools). I now see why people build a few of these kits.
As far as progress, I made little. I cut the servo bays out for the stabs and glued the hardwood blocks in for the servos. I did not get to sheet them because I forgot about the hardpoints I have to sink into the stab cores to support the screws that secure the stab tube. I did get to sheet the top rear foam core. Here are some pics.

Thanks for the encouragement, now if I can light up the ol' credit card until it smokes... not for the kit, but the glues, covering, engine, servos, .........
I haven't noticed any comments in this thread, but I guess you know about the in depth build threads on the Carden site at the bottom of the page???
Good Luck,
Jim

I've never built the Edge. Are the servos really that close to root edge on the stabs?

I was alittle worried about the servos being that close also but thats what it showed on the print. The hardwood servo supports will butt agianst the balsa end cap for added strength. I tried to wiggle the supports after the glue had dried and they were solid. With the sheeting on, there should be no problems at all ( I hope).

I decided to play around with the hatch and canopy for a change of pace. I removed some foam from the hatch core using a razor knife and lots of sanding after. I made the balsa caps and trimmed the canopy. It's nice to get an idea of what the finished product will look like. Here are a couple pics ( the hatch is not finished, just mocked up).

Thanks capflyr. It's a big commitment ( money and time ) but watching it start to take shape has been worth every late night in the garage. I like the fact that the kit and plans give you all you need to build a sweet plane but also give you the freedom to add your own personal touch. Give it some soul. You know what I mean?
