I was wondering if anybody is running a 11.1 V 3c lipo in their ST'S and if so what brand . I am running a 2c 7.4v APOGEE right now, but was thinking of getting a 3 cell if its possible. Thanks.

I use a 3S x 1700 Vampower battery in mine. It fits like a glove.

Check out the sizes real good as they may have changed. I remeber doing hours of research on sizes and prices before I purchased as the vedetta and mini-quake use a short battery tray. The Dualsky cells were about the biggest 3S that would fit.

In the 2S size I was able to use a common sense 2000 mah battery and it fits like a glove too, but the 3S was just too tall and heavy. Those sizes may have also changed.

In either case checking the current capability is in order, you knew that probably.

Are you talking about this one?

No, I use the 1300mah model for both 2s and 3s applications. I'm sure the 1000mah one will be fine for most any mini. You'll see about 10 minutes of runtime with that. Charge times will be about 30-35 minutes at 1amp.

Thanks for the info guys I'll give one of those a shot, do you gear your ST low when you run the 3c lipos?? Like a 11 tooth pinion intstead of a 18 tooth??

It would help on the heat. I actually only use a 3s for speed runs. For normal bashing and racing, they are too fast. So, I rarely ever change the pinion when I move to 3s, because I want the extra top end for speed runs.

*side note*
moving down in pinion count is actually called "gearing up". It sounds backwards, but it has to do with the spur/pinion ratio. By using a smaller pinion, you're making the spur to pinion ratio higher... thus gearing up. "Gearing down" would be the exact opposite.

I guess I have two opposite views, lol. I use a smaller pinion with 3S than with 2S and going to a smaller pinion is "gearing down"

terminology, sherminology... I've encountered this debate a few times, and as long as we are on the same page and understand each other, that what matters.

I agree, with using a smaller pinion on 3s. But like I said, I only use 3s for speed runs, and thus want the extra tooth count. But if you plan to use 3s for everyday stuff like bashing and racing, then definitely move to a smaller pinion.

I'm definately with you on the high speed runs. Using a 3S is in a sense "gearing it up" in itself.

Yea, I think were on the same page. It depends if one wants to keep the top speed constant or INCREASE it. lol.
