Has anybody started on the top flite B-25 yet? Mine is going into the backroom until I can afford to get the rest of the parts (i.e Landing gear, engines, radio, etc.)

dwr,

Keep us posted on what you come up with for the exhaust. Trying to stuff a G-26 in a .60 size cowl without the exhaust sticking out is going to be tuff.

Hello Warbird Man, the Bisson mufflers came in and it looks like they will work fine. The muffler sits in the same position as the stock unit but most
of it rises above the center line of the crank. All that is needed is to modify the bottom corner to clear the cowl radius. No problem with an aluminum muffler. Thought I might also have a clearance problem at the top outside corner but not so. The modified muffler volume will be about the same as the stock unit. I'll post a pic when the mod is done. DWR.

Hey shanksow, I'm doing the same as you but did you look at your kit thouroughly before putting it away? I've had my kit about a week now and finally got to look at it piece by piece. I found my nose compartment canopy is all cracked. I'll be contacting product support for a replacement. Just giving you a heads up. Also are your canopies nice and clear or do they have a milkiness or haze to them? Just wondering.

I think all of my clear parts were a-ok. But I'll double check them now. thanks for the tip.

EDIT: (11/27/07) - check clear plastic parts in my kit and they are A-OK.

TT, I am doing the C model with the aft top turret and no large side windows. I believe that was the version the 345th BG first went operational with in New Guinea. It is interesting that they no more than got there before they were sent back to Townsville for modification as strafers. They were set up with four 50's in the nose and a twin pack on each side for a total of eight fixed forward. I like this version as it retained the original nose profile. They just painted over the plexiglas according to the Squadron Signal book. One of the fun things about this hobby is finding out all this history. DWR.

Check this video out on youtube. The last few minutes includes footage from the Movie Catch 22. The mass takeoff is the real thing. Something like 20 airworthy 25's were assembled in Mexico to shoot the movie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PoU1R4BeS0

Yes, and he dragged most of those airplanes home on weekends with the help of his kids and friends. Air and Space mag ran an article about it written by his son. There is also some pages about it in the book"Hunting Warbirds" by Carl Hoffman. That book is a must read for aviation junkies.

Took a run up to Fantasy of Flight near Orlando and took a close look at Mr. Week's great B25. I was interested in seeing the rivet detail. In general, flush rivets are used from the nose to the main spar of the wings, then standard rivets aft of the spar. This was the case on the bottom of the fuse and wings also. The forward half of the bombay door skins were flush, the aft rivets were standard.

Fantasy of flight is a great museum, many of the aircraft are airworthy and the owner, Kermit Weeks, has flown all of them from the 5000 ft. grass strip right next to the museum. Every day about 1:30 PM they do a demo flight of one of planes in the collection. Yesterday they flew a Fiestler Storch. You can also get quite close to most of the aircraft on display.
