Fly4Real,

I'll take a bomb aimer and tail gunner while you're at it.....

That's great work with the photos, might have to steal your idea on mine to hide the hole in the rear of the cockpit on my TF B25.

Where did you learn to sculpt figures like that anyway, those are very nice?

Cam

Hi Cam,

Thanks for the compliments. Much appreciated! I have a degree in art and have always had a knack for sculpture and painting. I used the Sculpey brand of clay to sculpt and then heated them in the oven to harden. To lighten them, I drilled out almost everything you don't see. They weigh less 5 oz. a piece.
If you want my copy of the photographs, I can email those to you. You can probably size them to fit your B-25 which I think is a bit smaller.
Let me know.

Take care,

Lyle

fly4, those are outstanding pilot figures. Have you ever considered making a mold and reproducing those in a light weight material? Seems like there are a lot of modelers out there looking for good
bomber pilot figures for the Ziroli and other bombers around the Ziroli 101" size. Does anyone know where to find good 1/7 or 1/8 WWII pilot figures ?
also would like to see some shots of the entire B25. The cockpit detail is great. DWR.

Lyle,
I think you should bring that Z B25 to our "Warbirds Over Denver" event this June 13, 14 an 15. We should have at least 4 or 5 25's flying formation at the event. I just posted a video link in the ARF/RTF forum under the TF B25 thread of me and a bud practicing at the site.....come on...I know you want to!!!!!

only problem is we would have to never take our eye off out plane. esp if we all have the tf b-25 even at altitiude the ziroli can be confused. Its very doable but would require lots of practice to get it right

Keeping your eyes on your own plane is certainly a prerequisite for formation flying and just like anything else, practice makes perfect. Last year we had 8 GS Mustangs flying in a large gaggle...still gives me chills to picture them all flying by at the same time!! B25's flying together in a loose formation is the only thing that I can think of that could beat it!

I've had a bit of experience flying formation but you really have to be on your toes. The number one guy has to be very competent and the number two guy has to be someone you trust your airplane with since he is the one that has to maintain the formation and more importantly SEPERATION. Here are some pics of Steve Forrest and myself flying formation with B-17s and P-47s. We get to practice about three times a year and do a reasonable job. With more practice, we could make it look pretty good. However, every once in a while there are some close calls!
To keep this within the thread... yes, I would love to come to Warbirds over Denver and Steve and I are seriously considering it. KC isn't that far away. The B-25s in formation would be AWESOME!

Willey,

Where U bin?? More pin-ups please!! Here is my original Vargas calandar girl f/ my birthday month - Dec. '41. Now where can I get this made into a nose art decal or vinyl??

Then my B-25 will be the fictitious "FUR BALL" in honor of my dad who served on Guam f/ '44 until the end of WWII servicing bombers, mostly B-29's, with the 315th Air Wing.

Man! that's a nice pic!! if it's small enough you should be able to have it scanned then print it to decal paper or a vinyl material, cut it out then stick it, throw some flat clear on top then add some color from your airbrush of the same you used on the plane around the edges to soften the look a little, I also used some pastels/chalk works good - I did that on my 47 came out OK!!

make sure you post pics of your progress, that art will look sharp on your 25!!!

I have a few parts for the 25 project & lots of reference but it's kinda on hold for a while, I been very busy with work and family lately but will build the Z101 25, just not happenen as planned, will post it here when I get started. I've also been working on my old Byron Staggerwing, should be painting real soon.

You guy's keep the 25 info/pics coming, I have not run across any new stuff lately, I'll post when I do though. Thanks rnordeck!!!

ORIGINAL: Flak

OldScaleGuy,
I have a great memory, (as long as I'm not answering one of my wife's questions) LOL!

Willey,
My aunt Patsy Ann, (who is still with us) lied about her age and at 16 helped build B-25's at the Fairfax Bomber Plant in Kansas City, Kansas. About three years ago, (being a member of the CAF) I got her a ride in Show Me, the B-25J Mitchell from St. Charles, Missouri. She was flabbergasted and honored to be able to fly in one of the very aircraft she helped build so long ago. My B-25J Mitchell from Ziroli plans is being finished in Flite Metal. I am naming her "Patsy Ann" after my aunt. She recently gave me the photo they used to make her plant I.D. from. I am having this transposed to a decal and will place it as the Nose Art with her name once the project is finished. I should have finished this ship long ago, but I have more than one hobby. I am currently restoring a 1943 Willys MB 1/4 Ton Jeep. I will jump back to my B-25 project this fall.

I was linked to this thread from another as I am looking for some pin up nose art of a "Southern Belle" or a "Sexy Hillbilly" for my next project, a P-51 I plan to name "Kentucky Woman". This thread, the quoted post actually, changed my mind. My mom ran electrical wiring on P-38's during WWII. I have her old factory ID too. I also have a High School portrait of her from the same time period. NOW, my next project will be a P-38 instead of the Mustang. I'll use my mom's high school portrait and the plane will be called, "Donna May". Not exactly a pin up, but, Hey, we are talking about my mom here! Thanks for the idea. Now, how to hide it from the wife.......

Lyle,
Those pics are AWESOME! The B-17's give me goosebumps...I've flown my B25 with a big 17, an Me 110 and a P38 at the first Warbird event...for me it was the highlight of the show. As of right now we have confirmed at least 5 B25's are coming to the event. We'll also have at least three GS Corsairs to gaggle with too. I've been practicing with my bud to do a series of Heritage flights with my H9 120 size Mustang and his big turbine F-22. When we get it right it's a sight to see!

OK, how about some more pin ups? I'm taking my '42 MB Jeep to Hooters when the weather warms up. Should be loads of fun. Hopefully I can get a couple of the girls to pose. I'll post the photos if I do.

Hi Everybody

I've been slowly building this basically own-design 84" B-25 for almost the last year now around other projects. It is sort of a blend between the Wing Manufacturing kit and the 101" Ziroli - all built from foam, covered in balsa and brown paper with the purpose of trying different ideas rather than the last word in scale.

It is my third Mitchell and the previous ones have both had trouble with UC door sequencing. I've tried both air and electrical sequencers but they both suffer from the short coming of being time delay based - open doors, lower wheels wait and close doors. This works fine if the wheels move at the speed they should but they don't always for any number of reasons.

Most Mitchells you see either don't do doors or just leave them open when the wheels are down. In an effort to beat this problem I'm trying a servo driver http://www.ef-uk.net/data/servo-driver.htm modified for two switches to work the doors.

I have 2 micro switches that sense the wheel position. If either switch is closed the doors shut otherwise they are open. There is an individual circuit for each one of the 3 wheels. As soon as the wheel starts to extend or retract it opens its switch thus opening its doors. When it reaches its full movement it closes the other switch closing the doors again. The door servo is fully independent of the receiver and just works off the movement of the wheel operated by air in the usual way.

It works great on the bench but has anyone tried this? Are there any problems? I'm still a week or two from test flying and would love to sort any potential problems before hand.

Thanks
Richard

Hey All, Just got finished, (are you ever really finished or just get tired?) of painting Miss B Haven. I think Flak will appreciate the nose art! I wanted to portray a weathered warbird that looks like it was pulled right off the front line in the South Pacific. I used latex paint which was a pleasant surprise on how easy it was to work with. I think I may have actually made the plane weigh less since I sanded about two cups of primer dust from the plane before putting just 1/8 of a quart of latex paint on it thinned with about 20% windshield wiper fluid. Now back to casting pilots!

Fly4real, what an outstanding job. Is that the 101' Ziroli? If so sign me up for a set of those pilot/copilot figures. Let us know how the maiden goes. DWR.
