D300 hit the local stores today. Below is a sample photo I took at ISO 3200--no noise reduction was done.

Should have my D3's in a week or so. Wasn't impressed that I had to jump through hoops for Nikon to get them! You had to fill out a form stating you're a photographer, then send it to you supplier to confirm it.... Thought that's what NPS was for. Maybe they need two levels of NPS lol! I also ordered a 12-24 and a 24-70 as I sold my old 17-35 and 35-70 when I started using the D2X. Heard these lenses will be slow in coming though. Didn't know there's a new 400, 500 and 600. Hmmm.

I've already read one or two posts stating that Samy's Camera in LA is supposed to be getting the D3's in stock in that time frame. I don't know about B&H in NYC. Locally, I was told "next" year, January? The "hoops" are probably an attempt to help prevent re-selling the camera bodies on the net--you know, that one certain "selling" website.

The 24-70mm would make a nice addition to my range of lenses but I'd have to sell (or should sell) my 17-55mm F/2.8 (first) and then probably pick up the 12-24mm as you have done. Eventually, I'll probably just pick up the 10.5mm F/2.8 since the Nikon program can automatically straighten the photo out if I don't want to use the fisheye effect.

The fisheye is a really fun lens lol. With my wedding work I'd say it gets a lot of use. But when you straiten it... lets just say the 12-24 is going to do a lot better job.

Do you take bride and groom photos with the 10.5mm? Do their ears sort of disappear? LOL. For me, the 10.5mm would just be something to play around with then again, they all are just something for me to play around with. Mostly, I use the 70-200 VR and 17-55. More so, the 70-200 VR.

May use it too much lol! Dance pics with multi sb800's on rear sync and slow shutter speed....way at the end of the reception. Makes for some pretty wild shots. Not much use for rc jets though. I find when using the 10.5 I burn my eyebrows off a lot when shoot from the rear : )

I shot a desert race on Saturday and then a motorcycle race on Sunday. At the MC race someone thought they knew me from a wedding that they thought I shot. I just laughed though I might think about it if I could have wore the same clothes--T-Shirt, shorts, and an OGIO flight vest. LOL.

I've been thinking about picking up a couple more SB800s for some time, then I end up thinking about studio lighting as well. Then I keep thinking about upgrading bodies; however, I wish I knew more about the two newer Nikons supposed to be released or rumored about--basically, a full-frame version of the D300 and a version of the D3 with more megapixals. Too many toys and not enough coin....

If you shoot indoor hockey, I'd love to see some pics taken with the D3. I've checked out the Nikon example photo, but it looks like a staged shot to me. The high ISO shots are what interest me since my D200 usually sucks at 1600+ ISO. That's also why I've been considering the D300.

Shaunrbell,

Still waiting on the D3 photos? BTW, did you ever get that H3D-39 or the newer Hasselblad model now that it has been released?

Still sitting on the fence about a MF digital rig. I see Leaf has a new camera along with the new Sinar. It's a lot of money though and if there's going to be a D3X, it may be more than enough for my needs. Still want one though lol. Got my first D3 about two weeks ago, still waiting for the second body. I had said earlier I was getting at 12-24...hmmm, it's actually a 14-24. Anyhow, both the 14-24 and 24-70 are amazing lenses : ) Last week I shot 4 boudoir sessions. It was pretty cool working with ambient light, shooting most the time at 1600! It's nice not having to pull out all the studio lights when you go to a customers house. Now for what I don't like about the D3. The WT-2 transceiver doesn't work, you have to buy the new WT-4 at $900. I really like the way the WT-2 mounted to the bottom of the camera, not hanging off you shoulder like the WT-4, bit of a step backwards. Better take some aircraft shots as none of this has much to do with RC lol!

I'd noticed that about the wireless. I've been shooting ISO 1600 at F/2.8 more and more, so I'm leaning toward the upgrade to either the D300 (dirty situations) and/or D3 (cleaner environments). PMA bound this coming Saturday as well.

The basket ball photo is from last night and the AMA photo is from a while back.

EDIT: BB photos better on my second go round. Really considering moving up...

A couple of lens shots I took at PMA. Then it was more basketball.... However, I didn't use a long lens like those in the PMA photos.
