Just thought I would post a note about using Castor Oil in RC airplane engines. I purchased a used Thunder Tiger .61 GP engine and was having one heck of a time getting it to run smoothly. The motor looked like new so I guessed it was still tight and not broken in as it was very hard to turn on compression stroke. Even the electric starter would hardly turn it over. Out of desperation I purchased pure Castor Oil in the 2 oz. bottle for $3.75 (Yikes) at our local drug store and added it to a new gallon of Omega 15% nitro fuel. The fuel states castor/synithic mix but the castor oil percent was lower than the manufacture recommendations. Boys, you sould see that engine run now! It took a few turns to get the fuel into the carburetor but it made all the difference in the world! The temp. outside was 75 Degrees so it was not a very hot day. I ran that engine for the full gallon and no trouble. I switched back to the normal Omega 10% nitro and you guessed it, ran ok for short time and than trouble. Engine would not run smooth so another trip to the drug store (they are getting rich on Castor Oil sales) and now she runs like a dream. I have six 2 stroke engine planes and two 4 stroke planes, all in the .61 to .91 size class and never encountered a problem like this. I'm running 2 oz. castor oil in every gallon of 2 stroke fuel both 10% & 15% nitro. I have not tried it in the four strokes yet but I hear that the lower RPM and ringed pistons of four strokes don't require as much castor oil. I still will run 18% oil (castor/syn) in my four strokes. I found that you can buy 16 oz. of castor oil for the price of 4 oz. (at my drug store) at Tower Hobbies[>:]. Anybody want to buy some Castor Oil company stock? hee hee [;)]
