My Jett 50 has run perfect up till today.

Last weekend, i finished up the day with a lean run in my DD that cooked the merlin plug.
Also noticed the button head loosened when i removed the old plug so, I re-tightened the head. Cross torqued.

Transfered the engine over to my F20 for this weekend, requires reversing the needle valve direction. (have done this many times before)

Now the engine won't draw fuel. I can get it to run (barely) with the carb wide open. The needle valve setting has no effect on the running ie. no needle response. I've been through all the plumbing, no leaks, I've checked that the needle valve is clear and flows fuel, the needle will close off and completely stop fuel flow when it is screwed right in, so it seems to be functioning normally. The carb is tight.

There must be an air leak somewhere hence the unresponsive needle but, what's the most likely candidate? The needle itself or the head gasket?

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Mike

Hi Bob,

think i solved my own problem, it seems the piston sleeve rotated. I amazed it ran at all. I haven't test run yet but, I'm confident this is the fix.

Regards,

Mike

Good catch....

yep... the rotating sleeve trick.... gets them every time.

A very hot run will cause the head bolts to lossen up.
You bloow the plug.
When you change the plug, the liner rotates.
Next thing ya know....... the engine does not run.

Just in case anyone else reads this... this does not happen often, but it can and does happen on an extended lean run where the engine got real hot for a bit.

Fix is easy......
remove head, realign sleeve, replace head.

also.... give the engine a moment or two on the ground running (its normal needle setting). After you shut it down, with the engine warm, double check the head bolts --- dont over tighten... just ensure they are snug.

Bob
