So you used the 301 spring airs with the firewall mount if I remember correct. Also Futaba 3002 MG servos.
Are those servos good for both ailerons, both flaps, rudder and elevator and retract?
I'm thinking of placing the retract and servo order before I return from vacation. Having not seen the plane yet this is risky unless you've done it.
Also wondering what struts/oleos and wheels you used on the 301s?

I'll put together a complete EDF build thread using whatever 1st hand knowledge I can gain from those who have done it plus my own tweaks.

I found that the Hitec 125MG servos will drop right in for ailerons and flaps. Will check for some digital ones to see what price difference.

Status: offline 		Carl, i'm using futaba 3102's on everything. They fit the servo mounts very nicely and they are light (.7 oz.) I'm putting 2 right in the stabilizer half so there will be no linkage going into the fuselage. Will use these on everything except nosewheel steering where hitec hs85mg will be used. I have the ducting and fan mounting done, will do some photos tonight. Doug

Status: offline 		I was just wondering how I would mount the servo for the elevators! Glad you posted. I have looked at every single 1,000,000 pictures that come with the CD manual (if you can call a bunch of pictures and no instructions a manual). Between the CD and the giant turbine thread I wasn't happy with the ideas for the location of the servo mount for elevator. I'll look up the 3102 servo now. Noticed that the JR DS368 looks like a perfect fit for the ailerons and flaps at 13x28.5x30mm weight is 22g or .83oz and 3.8kg / 53oz of torque. Digital and $70 each. Metal/composite gear train. I'm scratching my head on the fan mount a little.

I can also slide one of these servos up the vertical fin for minimal linkage distance to the rudder.

If you can post some pictures of fan mount and your elevator servo mounts that would be fantastic. Couple from different angles.

What is the small tube that goes down the center of the intake for??? How far in are we supposed to push it? All the way to the fan?

Status: offline 		Doug, I just did some measuring and it looks like the Futaba 3102 and the JR DS368bb I thought of using are the same size. The 3102 is half the price but I didn't see any mention of "digital". Either would be a VERY tight fit getting in the horizontal stab from measuring and holding a smaller hs65hb up to it. The HS65HB about 11.5mm across and looks like it would fit. I squeezed the horizontal stab and it seems pretty solid for about an inch in from where it would contact the fuse.
Have you opened this up yet to see if there is alot of wood support in the way?
Were you planning to bury it permanently or did you have any thoughts for making the horizontal stabs removable or maybe cutting out a hole to put the servo in like what is in the wings for the aileron?

Status: offline 		Ok, took a few pictures. This is were i'm at for now. Servos in stabilizer body, will need servo reversing Y-connector and long leads. My fan setup is shown with the homemade fairing ala BVM style to get the wires out of the airflow. The fan mounting former shown installed with the keeper piece in place (black carbon fiber). This is installed from the back but i have my plastic bolts mounted forward so i can get to them from the wing opening. The intake tube is supposed to be for mounting the ESC up front with airflow being pulled by the fan past the esc. I may mount the tube anyway and run it up to the front of the fan to act as a fairing and feed only the fan swept area. Other option is to just seal off the hole with flat thin cardstock or ply. We should move this thread over to RCGroups to really get some exposure. Much more EDF action there.... Doug

Great idea on elevator servos. Do they pretty much sit flush with the outside when you put them in?
Did you the the 301s in yet? Curious as to what servo will work for steering and what for the air valve. Don't think it will take a big servo for either. Need to get the 301s in so I can decide on servos and get them all on order.

Post here when you start a thread in Rcgroups. There is more edf interest there for sure.

Status: offline 		I think i am going to skip the retract install for now and use the model as a bungee launch. This will allow me to fly at our electric field which is all grass, will decrease the weight by more than a pound and get the model in the air quicker with improved performance. I wish the DS-51 shroud was built for more structural integrity. The casing deforms so easily that despite successfull bench tests when i installed the fan in the plane something is causing a distortion and i have been unable to pinpoint the problem. I ra
