Thank you for your reply's
Reinhard: That is exactly what I was thinking I would need to do. I hope I can do that with my FF9.
carlrich: The Vampire is a super plane..I'm hoping this will also be.

You're going to love this L39. Super easy to fly and can be quite fast. Flaps are great for slowing it down. Handles extremely well in the air. I'm about to place an order for the Vampire so I hope I can get some speed out of it.

My Vampire isn't that fast, but is great to fly. You could easliy put 8 cells in one and push near 2K if you wanted. The landing speed is mega slow if you want it to be.

I've just played around with a mix and after an hour of trial and error I found it is possible with my FF9....great!
This means my setup will be as follows:

1: Aileron on a Y-Lead
2: Elevator 1
3: Throttle
4: Rudder
5: Flap 1
6: Flap 2
7: Elevator 2
8: Rudder nose gear
9: Retracts

I think I may use a Lipo to power this lot through a regulator.

Has anyone found that the nose gear can cause the steering servo to stall when up?
I'm just installing mine and can't find a good location for the servo....any close ups would be really helpful.
I'm using the Jet 1A forward retracting version.
Thanks, Neil

L-39 Neil? Good choice! :-)

Fine thanks mate. Not selling mine now as I've found a way to improve the way my retracts handle my awful grass field. I forsee no further takeoff/landing problems!
How things with you? lil un ok?

When you flying this L39? I flew mine last week and forgot how much I love it!!

Its nearly finished and I've just done a CG check with my packs. I'm guessing 80mm from the LE of the wing at the fuz is what people are flying with.....it just seems a little far forwrad.
Mine is looking like an AUW of 10lb with 10S 5000's and a NEU Motor 1515/3D. I hope the extra power overcomes this extra weight.

Neil, L39 flies great at 80mm CG. I can't say what would happen if you move it back some. I'm just over 9lbs. When you get a chance to check watts, amps and thrust please post. I don't want to dilute this L39 thread about the Vampire. Would you have a look at my question on your Vampire thread?

I just ran some very quick tests on cold (about 10deg) packs and got the following:

69A
2450W
3.4kg of static thrust - on not very acurate scales.

The model feels very light when held nose up on full power and only slowly falls down. As long as the model can handle this type of wing loading (10.5lbs) it should fly well.

Neil, my 44 powered version is 11lbs at takeoff and flies beautifully. Make sure you have your takeoff flaps set as they do really help.
When you flying her?

Hi Dave
Hope you got my email the other day.
What flap settings do you use for take off and landing? Have you needed to couple any elevator?
I will be taking her up for a maiden as soon as the weather is better, probably this Saturday or Sunday.
How much thrust do you get from the 44?
Neil

Hi Neil, yes thanks for your email the other day. Gongrats on the second lil 'un, very pleased for you. Suprised you have any money at all for all this stuff :-)

I have about 15degrees for takeoff flap mixed with a small amount of down elev. for landing flap, use as much as you can get, and mix 2/3mm down elev to prevent ballooning. I have max about 40degrees on landing flap. With the upgraded 44 and my special thrust pipe im getting approx. 10lbs.

Im going to recheck my cg as I think I intially set it to 80mm but found during recent flights that it doesn't seem to 'sit' nicely in the air, so I may move it slightly.

I managed to squeeze a maiden in today. There was no wind and our strip hasn't been cut for months. Its been raining heavily for a few days so the drag was rather alot. That being said it got off.
The flight was 5.5 mins long and I used 3000mah from the 5000mah packs. The power in flight was very good and its handling is rock solid. I had a few semi lockouts which I will address but for tomorrows flights I will be taping the aerial to the fin.
My landing could have done with a final flair but the sprung Jet 1A retracts did their thing and took out the bounce.

Can't wait for my next flight so I can start seeing what its capable of.

Neil,
well done on your first flights,
Neil did you buy your Neu in the Uk? if so have you got contact details please?i have the Schriener l39 but as yet is unflown as i don,t think it has enough power, iam using an ap900 fan with a mega 22/30/3 on 8s approx 1400 watts with an all up weight of 8 and a half lbs.
Do you think that will suffice? most of the other l39 all appear to use the DS51 set up.
any input much appreciated .
cheers Euan

Mark Brown may be able to help here....
I've flown his with 1600w at about 8.5lb and it is lightly loaded for take-off and landings but at 1400w you will struggle to get away from grass. His will just about loop from a dive.

Neil

I got my Neu motor from Flydma who are no longer the distributers..Tamjets seem to have them in stock though
