Neil.
thanks i was beginning to wonder if had been sold the right setup? it does list the same motor on Tamjets as being suitable for 8 or 9s it has to be better than my first attempt with 1400 watts,
cheers Euan.

Hello,
my plug and play arrived yesterday and i,ve spent the day installing it into my L39, i had to make up an adaptor to suit as the airpower shroud is smaller ,ran it up on 6s to try it and it appeares to be silky smooth.
Carl i managed to get a medusa 1600kv from a UK supplier and have mounted it into the airpower fan ,i have uploaded a picture of both/look similar but with one at £550 and the other at £250 i am beginning to wonder if the Ds51 is good value at over double the cost, role on the test flights.
cheers Euan.
PS the intake ducts are home made from a blue foam plug and do look a little agricultural ,but as my model used to have a turbine in it i thought they will be better than none.

The airpower fan needs quite a few amps so careful how many cells you use with the 1600kv motor. I'm running the 1600kv motor in the Wemotech Midi fan on 8s using 1600kv. 1300 or even 1000kv seems to hold up better in the AP fan due to its greater pitched blades. At least in high watt cases.

Flight from today....2 flights both put back 3000mah. This tells me a lighter pack than the 5000's may be a possibility.

Nicely done Neil! Very nice! thanks for the video. Time to find someone with a radar gun.
Those retracts are very impressive. The plane is not a lightweight plane and they handle the grass field very well.

Its not a great time of year for retracts...not long to wait until summer, my landings may be smoother by then.

I put the maiden flight on mine Sunday. Bungee lauched with about 20 lbs pull. No problem although a little tail heavy. I didn't do flaps or retracts at this point untill i see about the planes performance. Running the Neu 1515-1.5Y on 10 S 3700 F/P 25's. I was by myself so no video. It took several go arounds to get landing right without the flaps. Most i ever used was about 80% power till i feel the bird out some and adjust the C/G. I have installed the Jepe exhaust cone on the rear of the pipe which may be cutting down flow.

Hello,
I got the first flight in this morning using aDS51 ,neu 1515.1.5y on 8s 1700 watts @56 amps,it flies great compared to my first attempts plenty of power for loops from level flight even managed to land with flaps.
I may consider using 9s if i intend to fly from grass in the future.
cheers Euan.

Congrats to Doug and Euan!
You both have the same motor. What's the Kv for that motor?

Finally, my review of the L-39 is in this current issue of RC-Sport Flyer Magazine. In depth 8 page review. A build thread and video should soon be on the site as well. Broke 150mph on the 10s 3850ma, Midi, Medusa 1300kv set up. 8s 3850s on 1600kv was good for 135mph. The video is really awesome so I hope they get it up soon. Sound is fabulous. Final weight was 9 lbs 1 oz.
