I know there is a huge thread on turbine operations but what is the scoop on the EDF version of this plane. I will be ordering one soon and want to gather information on the conversion. Thanks, Doug

Dave

My L39 was put together this afternoon. The power set up is as follows
DS51
lEHNER1940
Spin 99 opto
I am trying 8s 5000 Thunder power cells
Weight is 8LBS
Watts are 1590

I was expecting around 1800watts

Watts per pound 198 which may not be enough for a good performance. My friend has flown the previous set up on 7lbs at 1033watts on a Plettenburg which was 147 watts per pound which was good but lacking which is why I changed the power set up.
Any how I will know how the new set up performs by tomorrow evening if the weather is OK,

Thanks Mark, keep me informed. It's Doug by the way. I will be using the DS51 with Neumotor 1515-1.5Y at 10s so should be over 2000 watts. This is the setup being used in the new Tamjets EDF F-16. 150 + mph. Doug

Sorry Doug

Had a friend fly the L39 this evening very stable and smooth.I have a problem getting the carriage up but I will work on it this week. I do not have flaps on it but still managed to get off the grass strip. Flew for five minutes at half power with a couple of full fly pasts. I have put back 2800 into the packs. I will try and upload the take off.2000 watts will be great.

Hope that helps

Mark

Mark, i just sent Savex my money. I had the L-39 silver version with the Wren 44. A great flying little combo but ended up selling before something happened. probably had 30 flights on it. What gear are you using, i have allways had good luck with gear, it's all about preperation and engineering. have you seen the video of the l-39 with lehner 1950 setup. It is literally faster than my turbine, i kid you not. thats when i decided to get one and do edf conversion. What does savex give you for ducting and how hard is it to install? Doug

Mark , i don't think your video made it. Funny thing is i was searching L39 and found a video of my jet from Singapore. It's the Silver , black and red one with a white rudder. He's flying the heck out of the jet and now i miss it. Can't wait to get my new one and try EDF.

Great video. Do you know how many watts you are pulling and also what your L39s weight with packs is.

Many thanks

Hi Mark,

thank“s
well, in the Video i flew with 9 S no name 3900 Lipos and had 56 Amps and 4,3 kg.
Now i have the new Saehan 4000 in it and i must really say, wow, what a different.
The Amps are now 63 and the weight is 4,4 kg. I know, it seems a bit heavy, but
the L39 flies superb. Last weekend was taken a speed mesure with a Radar Gun and
it was 230 Kmh. I would say not bad for an Electric Jet.
The Watt range is at the 1900- 2000 i think.

Regards

Reinhard

Mark, how is the landing without flaps? I ordered flaps but do to a screw up between banks on the money transfer i won't be getting them. My turbine version had flaps and they worked well. I'm considering doing mine bungee lauch only which will take the weight down quite a bit. We have a good size stable of bungee/edfs from sniper to Aeronaut panther. I can always add gear later... Hi Doug

I have cut flaps into the wing which was fairly straight forward. the landing and take off is a lot better. I did make the mistake of following the first line on the wing which was a mistake as the flap hinge splits on the top surface. The cut to make is the one a couple of mm from the aileron line.

I searched all over to find this thread. Nothing on RCGroups other than my question.

I take that back. I did find a thread by Ksonn. Unfortunately it is not a step by step build that I prefer. Installing retracts etc. It is also several years old and Ksonn didn't keep the plane.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=382085

The following is what I posted at rcgroups.
Do any of you know if this one being sold by icare is the exact same one you are getting from czech? Might save some time. I'm going to call icare.

Are you guys using retract doors to cover the hole for retracts? Did plane come with the doors cut out or with wood reinforcement for you to easily mount the retracts?

http://www.icare-rc.com/l39_albatros.htm

Says it's 1/8th scale, 48" span, 58" length. I've found some info on Schreiner/ Savex L39 and appears similar. Maybe the same. Saw a video of Chris True's that was REALLY fast. For the size this one is priced pretty well at $550. $49 get flaps, $225 gets retract ready and a set of retracts, $185 gets a cusom paint job. I'd go for all that for $1,060. Better fly nice for that.

Anyway, has anyone done a build thread on this bird?

Also waiting for Tam to finish his F16 with a package for retracts and whatever is needed to make doors open a
