F7F Tigercat painted as included photo. Flew as a civilian fire bomber in the 70's,

Is it a Warbird still?

Or is it a Civilian?

Same thing with lets say the P-51 Reno racer "Dago Red" Is that stil concidered a warbird?

Comments please.

Status: offline 		Dago Red / Strega are not warplanes. They have been modified, and the fuselages have been changed.

This one looks like a warbird in civilian paint. I am not sure how to vote on that, but lean towards civilian, since I doubt you could enter that paint scheme in scale warbirds competition.

Status: offline 		Unfortunately that paint scheme wouldn't be allowed at a warbirds Flyin such as Lums Pond Delaware, (Warbirds over Delaware) as If I'm correct they only allow aircraft in Military paint schemes.
But it is still an F7F Tigercat

Status: offline 		They have been modified away from thier wartime design to do something else (race, drop slurry). They also aren't painted as warbirds anymore. Could they be warbirds again? Sure.

Status: offline 		I'm no longer in the Navy, I no longer wear a Uniform, but i'm still a sailor, and always will be, even though I don't work for the Navy or wear Navy colours every day. She's still a warbird, with a new career.

Status: offline 		Though I would say shes a warbird I would have to agree she is a warbird converted to civilian use and thus would not qualify in any warbird event. though once a warbird always a warbird a little paint can change that hehehe.

Status: offline 		Shupack is correct! Regardless or what it does now or what contests (oh pleeease) it can enter. If it was in the military then it's a Veteran warbird, not a civilian airplane.

You can take the boy (plane) out of the military, but you can't take the military out of the boy (plane).

Status: offline 		If you take a deHavilland Beaver and paint it in the colors of an army plane used during the war.. it's considered a warbird no?

But then, take the same deHavilland Beaver and paint it in the colors of Camp Outthere, it's not a warbird right?

Or how about this: Take three planes, all spitfires. The first flew and shot down aircraft in the war, but now is painted in civilian colors. The second was built during the war, but never flew because the war ended, and today is in a museum with the original colors. And the third was built a year ago as someone's pet project, and is a great replica of an existing wartime spitfire.

Which of these are warbirds?

It seems that it can be entered in the "Civilian Warbird" category then. LOL

No Mike.... We are not putting the guns back on. Took me 6 hours to make those gun fairings. . Better stock up on that International Orange paint soon.
