eefkt -> Question on castor oil (3/17/2003 10:47:28 AM)

Hi, Is there any difference in grade of castor oil,
in terms of lubricating ability?
The only source of castor oil I can find here
is for medical use(?), Klotz is not available here.

And even though I am now mixing 20% of this
oil into my fuel and use it on 2 strokes, never run lean,
I still get lots of black exhaust residue,
does this seems normal?

Help

Francis Fernand -> Castor from a Lab. (3/17/2003 7:40:44 PM)

I also found this type of castor oil in my country and have the same as you.
But don't worry, because this oil is like it's. The black is normal.

Probably this oil is not degummed.

Try to get Motul Micro, Castro M, Castrol R40 or VP RC3. All these oils are castor or intended or can be mixed in model engines.

Use synthetics and you will not have to worry about the carbon residue.

That's a relieve.
Thanks for the suggestions! :)

Relfy -> Question on castor oil (3/18/2003 4:49:32 PM)

I use and have been using for 14 years a mix of 10% Model Technics E.D.L. Oil with about 2-3% castrol M. My engines never stop, run smooth and idle well. I don't use nitro, even in my Raptor 30 which has 40 hours on the clock without a single engine out and on my second plug, using this fuel (even though i was told when i first got the heli that nitro is a MUST). Another advantage is that I get a lot better fuel economy than others running the old 20% klotz/cool power with 5% nitro and 5% castor oil. A few months ago i got 40 mins out of a 12 oz tank in my astro hog! Give it a go!

fiery -> EDL (3/21/2003 9:11:29 AM)

Where do you get EDL in Qld Relfy?

I'm using Motul Micro, and happy, but I'm always interested in what's around.

This EDL is the preferred oil for LASER 4 strokes, so it must be good stuff.

Relfy -> Question on castor oil (3/22/2003 10:39:39 AM)

Hey there Fiery,

I finally found where i could get EDL in Queensland (after much searching and emails to the uk...) from Hobbyrama in Brisbane. It retails for about $38 a litre but I buy a few at a time and get it for $32 a litre. This sounds expensive but when you only mix it at 10%, it actually works out being only marginally more expensive.

Give it a go and you will be surprised. From Hervey Bay are we?

fiery -> EDL synthetic oil (3/23/2003 9:43:05 AM)

Hi Relfy, the living's easy up here in the 'bay alright!

The price for the EDL is not so far out of the ballpark, MOTUL MICRO 2T, my favourite synthetic from my local bike shop is now

AUD $60 for a 2 litre pack!

So EDL is cost comparative. I know hobbyrama well, my grandparents lived a couple of streets up the hill, I can find my way there blindfolded. I'll pick up a pack of EDL next time I'm there and will try it out.

Thanks for the heads up on this one!

Regards
