Lots of sanding but I finally finished sanding the Primer Filler off. Will be applying spot putty soon then back to more sanding

Thanks!

Just another quick update:

I applied the spot putty this evening. Got some more spots to find and sand and the fuse should be ready for panel lines..

Although it is a lot of work, it makes me wonder why I've never glassed any of my birds before..

Looks like you have the hang of it.. great! In stead of spot putty you can use a product that's better IMHO. It's also a putty but it's a two part affair. It's called Evercoat glazing putty. It sands to a feather edge like nothing else and sets up very fast. Typically you can buy it at automotive paint stores or online.

Deft sanding sealer is a laquer based sanding sealer. Try Zinsser Bulls eye SealCoat instead. You can find it @ Home Depot.

Guys, whats the diff between this glassing technique we are seeing above, versus not using glass but instead, just using resin directly over the wood to fill the grain and creat a hard paintable surface?

The glass solves two issues that will arise if you use resin alone. The glass helps to eliminate the wood grain from showing (though, you now have to fill the weave grain of the cloth). More importantly, without the glass, the finish will develope cracks as the wood expands, contracts, twists and moves with changes in temprature, humidity, and flexing with use.

Hi guys,
I'm about to work on a Byron F16 foam wings and tail feathers. I plan to do wood sheeting then glass 3/4 oz with epoxy resin, then paint. Weight of finish materials is of great concern on this big ducted fan bird. What lightweight options do I have for 1) filler/sealer over glassed body and fiberglass body and 2) primer/paint materials. Thinking of doing Thunderbird vs camo finish right now.

Had a busy schedule, but I finally found some time to finish glassing the wing. Got some more work to do.

I'm using the Robart 145-5's if anyone's wondering.

And this is what I will be painting it with:

I should be ready for paint sometime next week.

the Mustang is looking good so far.

for those looking for DEFT brushing laquer, you do not need the sanding sealer, the satin finish works just as good for sealing balsa and sands to a smooth finish after 2 coats.
in Calif, the sanding sealer is pretty much gone from the market unless you want to buy it in spray cans and it isn't as good as it used to be.
the satin and gloss finish product is still available in most areas, but your going to have to go to a paint dealer to get it,I get mine at the local Benjamin Moore store,I haven't found it in any of the Home Depot stores that I use, its really becoming a specialty item.
being a contractor I deal with these products all the time.

I am curious to see how the silver metalic comes out, I use a similar product called modern masters metalics its also a latex, water clean up and works pretty good, but I have read that the Behr works well also, looking forward to seing the results.

7aso, what kind of tape are you using for the panel lines?
