I see you are finally finished.. excellent looking results. Please continue the thread with the painting so we can see how that goes as well.

Meschmidt, I went there a couple months after the hurrican and saw the damage for myself. Quite sad indeed.

Bob, Im thinking about weathering it after the paint settles. I want the weathering to be mostly over the wings but not overdue it. What colors do you recommend?

I know it's been a while since I've updated this thread, but I finally got around to painting it. I didn't have enough time to start before the winter so I had to wait 'til it got nice out.

Here are the results of the behr metallic finish:

I'm working on the invasion stripes now. For all the other colors I'm using warbirdcolors.com paint.

I got the fuse done. Just need to touch up the edges around the invasion stripes. I guess the tape didn't stick too well and the paint got through. I'll straighten them with a very small fine brush.

Clear coat not applied yet

Zaso - how did you make the panel lines and rivets? I am glassing a Hostetler Cessna 150, and want to add the panel line and rivet detail.

Thanks

Joe

I have built four GS warbirds....I used Sig .58 glass and Mini-wax, both the blue can and the gold can...See little difference....I can do the entire plane with three coats in one day, dry overnite, then cover with another coat mixed with talcum powder, using it enough to fill any weave, wet sand smooth, and prime. I generally use auto paints for convenience, detail, then shoot on a coat of auto primer....I dont do museum quality planes, but they dont turn out too shabby..

I have also used Wal-Mart latex house paint, thinned with W/shield washer fluid. The latex should be given time to dry thoroughly.

There are as many ways to do this as there are builders... For a quick look at one finished this way, go to converseeagles.org
open pictures and find Howards razorback P-51, Shoo Shoo Baby
