Status: offline 		great thread guys!I am now thinking of gettin the kit,but man is it expensive.desert aircraft wants 450 for the pro version.O well,it's a hobby.But i wanted to ask you guys a question.What gas engine seems to be the best for this plane.I ve heard the zdz 40,and the 3w 24.I was thinking the da 50.Can you guys give me your opinion.Thanks.... I run a OS 140 RX with Hatori pipe on mine. With this combination the plane comes out a bit tailheavy, but ideal for 3D.

Status: offline 		Spillman; Great plane..! -and what a great scenery you have there!

Tailheavy... Do you have the servos at the tail?
-I know that a Swedish guy use only one elevator servo to compensate a light engine, (don't know if he move tha servo forward?) and ended up on only 4,5kg AUW!
-I'll not have that "problem" with my 40cc ZDZ I guess..! My friends ZDZ powered Funtana is 5,5AUW... even thoug it seem to fly like an slowflyer! A great design!

Ill continue to "chugh" balsadust (I'm allergic to balsa -but this plane is worth it! ) and hope to be ready to fly soon..! -great thing is that the kit builds a lot faster than it first look!

Status: offline 		Peter; Yes I have two Futaba S9650 in the tail, but the rudder servo is in the fuse with pull/pull-setting. Weight is approx. 4.8 kg. In my opinion the Pro version is a bit haevier than the S-version (100-150g).

Robert; It's the Pro version. Precision aerobatics is off course not as well as a "real" pattern plane. But it works not bad. 3D is awesome. Knife edge flying is the weak point of the Funtana. But it works.

Status: offline 		Robert; I do not have a Funtana S. But some of my friends have. The Funtana Pro fuse is made of balsa with ply wood reinforcements, whereas the S-fuse is almost completly made of ply. The rudder and the elevator of the Pro fuse is airfoiled and the fuselage is slightly higher. The rest is more or less the same. Expecially the wing is absolutely the same.

Status: offline 		Robert; I do not want to compare the flying characteristics of the S and Pro version, because I have never flown the Funtana S. According to my friend, who has both, the difference is not as big.

I live in the nort-east of Switzerland approx. 50 km in the east of Zurich.

I still have a mint condition Exclusive Modellbau Funtana S and I'm thinking of getting some use out of it again.
It has been hung up in my garage for about 4 years now and I keep looking at it thinking of putting one of the new generation petrol (DL 30/CRRC 40) engines in it.
I have periodically flown it, the last time about a year ago with some side force generators on the wing tips and it would knife edge quite nicely. I had about two flight and the exhaust cracked again!
I have been really frustrated by the YS 140L engine which produces so much vibration it's unreal, and either eats itself, the exhaust or mount. It will make the best ever door stop.
I would like to try a 3W 28 but can't run to £400 plus for just the engine
Has anyone else tried these sorts of engine (DLE/CRRC) in a Funtana?

If I was after a cowl, I would touch base with Sebart as he did an ARTF Funtana 140 size a while ago and might have spares cicking around.

Now that I have managed to upload the picture, here are some more modelled by the "bread knife".
The plane is still in the same condition, the photos were taken last summer. It seems a shame not to use it, I did try selling it for kit price and had no takers, so have decided to look around for a new engine.
The YS 140L is not compatable with the very expensive carbon engine mount I bought for it (it allows far too much movement in all directions), and now the Hatori exhaust is obsolete and I can't get replacement header pipes, so the whole lot will have to go. In all the YS has been a crock of sxxxt and I'm going to replace it with a small petrol.
If you need any advice on building and fitting the side force generators let me know.

Nice Funtana! I,ve got one sitting in a box waiting to be built.
The DL30cc engine should do nicely. Another option is the new Syssa Performance 30cc gas engine would appear to be the perfect power plant for this plane.
Its rear exhaust, so running a tuned pipe for extra power shouldn,t be problem. They are selling for approx. $400 shipped anywhere [so the site says]
The weight is also another factor that will weigh in this engines favour.
I,m planning on getting one in the coming weeks.
Do a search here on RCU for more info on both.

The Syssa looks good, its also quite expensive ( not 3w 28 money though, they are over £500!) but I'm trying to decide between the CRRC 40 and the DLE 30 which are pretty good value at the moment.
The price of the CRRC has been dropped in the last few months, probably as a result of the introduction of the DLE.
The 40 is slightly heavier but shows as having slightly more power and is also about £60 cheaper.
Will decide in the next few week and get one for the Funtana.
