Well I've been wanting to build one of these planes for awhile but been to lazy to go and try to find the 1 inch aluminum tubing needed. Worst part is that I have to drive by Lowes to get home. Anyways I finally went in there and grabbed a piece of tubing and got started. Man that stuff is a pain to cut!! I went though 4 cutting wheels on my dremel to make the tapers on the front and rear of the tube. I also decided to experiment with paint on the coro for this build. Here is a pic of my progress so far. Paint turned out allright but I should have avoided painting over hinge lines as it cracks. Oh well I got it right on the wing at least. If you guys got any pointers for this build let me know.

Well finally got it built and flown. First off let me say what a wild ride this plane is!! IT flies great with only a little down trim on the elevator and I think that was more cause I did not get the trim centered before I took off. It will go into almost a hands free hover with only minor inputs needed and will fly so slow into the wind it will almost stop!! Amazing. The only deviation from the plans on SPADworld is that I used two aileron servos as I am not a fan of using only one. Especially with a plane like this with Monster ailerons. On low rates it rolls very fast and high rates it is blistering fast to the point it is hard to see up or down on the model. Overall it is a blast to fly. Can't wait till this rain passes so I can get it out again!! Tell me what you guys think!!

I think you built a beautiful SPA3DT!

Wait until you start the hovers and flat spins! It only gets better...

Blue skies,

DL

Thanks guys. Haven't quite mastered the flat spin yet. Heck I am still just learning this odd aircraft. It does not fly like any model I have ever owned.

That's a very clean lookin' SPAD you have there...glad it's going well for you. I'm a long way off before I attempt a 3d ship, but when I do, that looks like it' s the way to go.

Thanks for the compliment. I think you may be surprised by this plane. When I back off the throttle and set it on low rates it is a very docile plane to fly. No trainer of course but once you get used to using the throttle a little more than usual is is an amazing aircraft to fly. I burned almost half a gallon of fuel on Friday flying the wings off it. I exposed some weak points but already have them repaired and waiting for the rain to pass again. This is hands down the most fun I have ever had flying RC.
