Hey Scott, you can download and try Clearview for free for something like 10 minutes I think. After that it won't run unless you buy it. I think it is only like $39. Just don't remember if the demo will let you fly many different helis or not. Might not let you try the Rex 500, I dunno, can't remember since I got it about a year ago, but you get all the upgrades free for life, lol.

I think I'll give it a shot when I get home.  Thanks, Jerry!

I gave it a shot and bought it!  It seems easier to fly than RF, so I'm happy about that!   Plus it also takes my Interlink controller really well!

Thanks, Jerry!

You're quite welcome Scott.
I found the advanced model parameters a little confusing at first, but if you look at them real close, i know you will probably figure them out better than I did. Let me know if you can get the Rex 500 to fly just like yours does. I am kinda curious, because after fiddling with some of the settings the King2 flys very much like my real ones, and I got the Heli-Max 450 in the sim to fly very close to my Blackhawk 450.
It has really helped me in the quest to become a better pilot. When I first started in this hobby last year I never thought I would even learn to hover. I was starting to get a little frustrated, but with lots of nightly sim practice I got much better in a short period of time.

I still haven't tried flying my real helis backwards or inverted yet, but I think it will come someday once I can do it consistently on the sim without crashing.

Will do, Jerry.  I've been looking for an explanation of the helicopter parameters but haven't been able to find it, yet.  I'll keep looking, though.

Jerry, I couldn't find an explanation of the helicopter parameters, so I went experimenting.  I changed the servo speed to .11, headspeed to 2950, pitch to 12/-12, paddles to a lighter paddle, and the T-Rex 500 model flies like my T-Rex.   It's cool, too.  I think I can change another model to fly like the Gaui.  I'll let you know what I come up with tomorrow.

I tested the BH500 today... no go on the aileron.  I have to redo links.

Scott

I redid the links size wise... For the record, the anti-rotation bracket's(metal version and this is the same bracket for the 450) slot is 25mm long, so the center of the antirotation ball should be at 12.5mm at 0 pitch.  That's a funky thing to get because the manual's link length is dead wrong.  The side links from the control arm to the swash plate should be 40mm to start.  The link from the elevator servo to the swash is correct at 30mm to start.   Just thought I'd spout.

I made a mistake with the rebuild. I didn't check the grips.  That's why I didn't have aileronone of the grips control arm's was bent.  I replaced the grip, redid pitch and now I have better cyclic response.  I even pulled a no-no and tested the helicopter in the rain.

Oh, well... All done. Now to crash again!

Scott

Hey Scott, glad you got it figured out. I have been in bed sick for the last 3 days, so nothing going on here at all.

Have you downloaded any of the other flying fields for the Clearview sim yet? There are some pretty nice ones. The strange thing is, with some of them, when you go to select a flying site, it doesn't show the pic of the sight like the others do. Not sure why that happens, but they will still work, it just don't show the site in the preview pic.

Getting sick sucks!  I'm hoping you're feeling better!

No, I haven't tried other fields, yet.  I've been using the field that's lined for a soccer and has all the domed monkey bars.  It's got trees and that's my biggest problem with orientation now.. losing the helicopter in the trees.  We're at the peak here so I've got a multicolored backdrop for flying when the little soccer tykes aren't out playing!   I'll be checking out some of those Clearview fields this week.

You know the odd thing is this:  I used to be able fly quite well with RF 4.5, now, I'll be damned if I can get a stable hoversomething that's second nature in real life, now.

Scott

Hey Scott, if the field you are talking about is Osage Park, I think, than yeah I like that one too as the field I fly at is surrounded by trees too so it is kinda similar. Another one I like is one I downloaded called 'badoldesloe'. It has trees too, but is a much smaller and narrower field , so, you really have to learn to keep the heli under control due to the more limited flying area.

A friend of mine that flies fixed wings has RF G4.5 and he told me that his real models are easier to fly than the same or similar models on the sim, but I don't know about the helis as I have only tried it out a couple times.
A lot of people bash Clearview, I guess cause it is cheap, but it has helped me a lot so I can't really complain about it. I just wish it had some of the training features that the higher end sims have.
If and when I might ever become a decent pilot, I might get Phoenix basically cause I have heard many good comments about it.

Thanks for the info on the park.  I'll try the smaller one.  I'm kinda flying in a shorter area of that simulated park just so I can keep orientation under control.  Your friend has the same complaint with RF that I do... the real thing is so much easier.  I've tried about all I can do to tame down RF, but no go.  It just got too frustrating, so I moved on.  I may try Phoenix as well, but not until after the holidays.  Gotta buy gifts! :-)

Well, no crashes today... it's bright, sunny and cold here... about 28.  It was interesting.  I never got cold while flying even though I'm standing dead still... that's a first.  I read that Jerry is out flying in the snow with a "properly engineered baggie" and another guy is using scotch guard!  So, it looks like I'll be joining the snow-fly club pretty soon.   Spent batteries as hand warmers... hmm...  It's actually supposed to get into the 60's two days this week...

Lots of batteries to charge today... gonna charge the Hyperion's first... that way I can fly tomorrow.

Last year at this time, I really didn't care if the wind was blowing or not... then heli's... Now, the first thing I do when I get up is check wind... my daughter got me a weather station that I have to setup next weekend... So, I've made some observations and they're probably widely known... Summer, unless there's a storm, no wind early in the morning or just before dusk... Fall/Winter... wind all the time unless you're lucky like today...

Just random thoughts.

Scott

Hi guys, sorry i haven't posted in awhile, haven't had much to say though as I have broken servos on the blackhawk and been too busy to sit down and decide on replacements. I think I have decided on the HS-65s. I don't fully understand what makes them double-the-price better than the 9g tower pro cheapie servos but I'm taking the wisdom on the crowds on this one. I also think I am gonna get some carbon fiber main blades. I would have bought the night flier main blades at xheli.com if they weren't out of stock . I actually want lights on my heli so bad that I bought blinking and steady on LEDs and resistors and a solder-less breadboard for experimentation from a Chinese site. its gonna end up being some Frankenstein thing but I want my lights dang-it!

I'm also gonna get my honeybee FP back up and flying as its to me what the MSR has become for you all...I don't care what that honeybee runs into or how it crashes, I'll just glue it back together :-P.

Speaking of the MSR, my friend bought one and let me fly it awhile back (he was one of the first to get one). Unfortunately the tail motor end came off (yes while I was at the controlls but he doesn't blame me). They replaced it free of charge though. Its a fun little heli but to me $179 that I can pretty much only fly indoors isn't worth it for me. Maybe I'll get one when its $79 ;-)

Hey Giz!

Welcome back!  I was just wondering what was up?   Sorry about your servos.   Lights would be cool.  Have you ever seen nightflying?  It's awesome.  A person I know said it's actually easier to fly at night. He said it was easier because you can see things like the blades...canopy, boom... whatever you have lit up, much better than in the day.   Let us know what you decide on!

Yeah, the mSR is a bit on the pricey side if you get the RTF... I have the BNF and I'm still loving it! :-)

Don't be such a stranger!

Hey guys, just thought I'd share my most recent modification to my heli. I found some old EL wire in my basement, and a very small inverter that runs at 12v...here are the results

now I just need some night blades...too bad they are out of stock pretty much everywhere

Looks pretty cool to me, Gizmo!    I wonder how much drain they cause?

Yeah those are the ones I have been eyeing...bit expensive but i guess I'll just bite the bullet and get em....man I'll have to cry if I crash with those, however the blades on my heli right now are the ones that came with it so ;-)

The drain isn't bad at all. The inverter changes a very small amount of amperage into a very high voltage. I put a battery monitor on it and ran it off the heli battery for 3 hours and the battery went from 4.14V per cell to 3.98V per cell.

That's really insignificant drain.  Very, very cool!  I wonder if that's less drain than the standard LED kits?

Hey Gizmo, that looks pretty cool. You can get the Align 325 night blades with charger at Ka-Planes too.
http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/25707

I think Helidirect carries them too, but they are sold out right now. Ka-Planes shows to have them in stock.

Hmm.. was it any cheaper at Ka-planes... I'll be honest, I posted the link to the first place I looked that had them. If you spent more, Gizmo, I'm deeply sorry.

No, its no problem. I had researched these blades before you linked them to me, I just didn't like the price very much. They are $52 just about everywhere when paired with the charger. When i saw them at KA-planes I didn't see them being sold with the charger so thats why I didn't go with KA-planes. Anyhow, they should get to me soon, hopefully by early next week. I'll post a vid of the completed job...now I just need a nice replacement canopy as the currently one is looking very sad from the crashes.
