Thanks, but I have noticed an issue with the tail blade grips staying put ... has anyone else had issues with that?

I also have issues with the thing spinning around as of late and am still chasing that cause.

Try some threadlock and maybe increasing the gryo sensitivity with the radio will help hold your tail tighter.

ea01bg, yes and I have even gone as far as replacing the allen screws themselves and used threadlock on them ... but a little too much because the tail grips would not rotate freely. So, in the process of cleaning that up, I noticed something ... are the blade grips supposed to sit flush - tight to where they are attached with the allen screws or is there supposed to be travel?

I think the bearings were pushed down too far into the grips, not allowing the allen screws to snug them flush and caused issues as well. For some reason one of my tail blade grips couldn't handle the load and the snapped where the eye attachment is. I am trying to glue it with CA but have ordered replacements.

Does anyone know of metal replacements?

You move the little switch on the front right of the radio to unlock then slightly turn the knob on the radio clockwise then relock the switch when done testing it. If the tail wags then it is too high then turn it down. If you have a keytech gyro it has a gyro gain on it too but it is easier with the radio.

I would be very cautious of a CA tail rotor grip. They spin at 4 to 5 times main rotor speed. If you have a head speed of 2000, then the tail is 8000-10000 rpm. the ca wont hold and the piece will fly off with great force (hopefully not at the pilot).

Is not the BlackHawk a 450 size? I think a TREX or HDX450 metal tail would fit if thats the case.

Thanks PaulLee, when you say the "front right of the radio" is that switch on the upper right-hand side, right? - I figured that out from the manual, small switch on bottom right area.

The knob is the black one on the upper left-hand side? - Figured that out from the manual as well.

I am looking over the manual for the WFLY transmitter. I will check that out on adjusting the gyro to see if it helps hold things steady.

Thank you Michael I am cautious and will watch it carefully, below is what broke and what I CA'd.

I did order replacements from Ka-Planes.com (hope they will reach me by Saturday) and ordered the tail grips for a Belt CP from HeliDirect.com to see if they are cross compatible. I'd like to try the grips from a T-rex also since I can go to one of a few LHS's and pick those up.

Nother question - how snug are the tail grips supposed to be onto their hub? I know they should they rotate freely on the hub, but should they also move on and off of the hub (like in and out)?

There should always be little to no end play in the tail. However, i don't have a black hawk so i cant say what is normal for that particular bird. Some times its the way it was designed/produced so you might end up with a little bit that you can never get rid of.

Thanks Michael ... can anyone with a BH450 help?

I'm concerned about the tail grips and the amount of play they have on the hub.

I know they should rotate freely, but what about up and down or on and off of the hub?

If I tighten the grips down onto the hub it seems that they still move on and off easily, I wonder if the allen screws that came in it were too long or something? I measured them at 10mm long.

Nah, there is a bearing in each tail grip, but no washers.

Looking around at other mfg's tail grips, it seems that most use a M2x8 socket screw where these came with M2x10's ... I may stop and pick up some M2x8's today and see if they don't help.

I'm also hoping Mike from Ka-Planes.com can check and respond as well (I've emailed them and am awaiting a reply).

I have the SE version. I just took a look at mine, the tail grips have a small amount of play when i grasp the grip and move it towrd or away from the hub. I would guess a 1/16 or less.

Thanks ea01bg, the CA didn't hold so I am going to see if I can get the blade grips from a T-rex 450 to work since my LHS has them.

They look like there about the right size but its hard to tell without pulling them off each bird. I have swapped a few parts between the two but not the blade grips.

I got home bout an hour or so after going, LOL thanks for concern guys!

I had to dremel the hub hole out some to get it to fit, but they fit now just fine.

They aren't the root issue in my dilemma though, I really think it's the gyro or servo and/or their positioning because the gyro seems to overcompensate causing the heli to spin around. The gyro is at it's least sensitive location on the dial as well, any further counter-clockwise and it shuts off entirely.

Please help guys!

I moved the tail linkage and the servo position to the manual specs and things just aren't working well and causing a lot of frustration.

Would there be a better gyro as a substitute?

I am thinking of trying the LG2100t (got a helluva deal on one) so this may help with the gyro issue.

I also will be talking via phone with Mike @ Ka-Planes on either Friday or Saturday, and hope to have all of this ironed out ... will let everyone know then as well.

Today I will be talking to Mike from Ka-Planes.com over the phone to see if he can help me with this tail holding steady issue. He was confident that we would get things resolved.

Hope I didn't buy the LG2100t gyro for nothing [;)]

ea01bg - why did you replace your gyro? Or did yours not come with one?

Helihap - that is what I hoped, but with the gyro at minimum sensitivity, it still seemed to over compensate.

I did refer to the online manual from www.helipro-rc.com and confirmed length of the tail shaft links, had to adjust them and servo position. Just really looking forward to getting this issue straightened out, because this heli sure seems like a great machines and I am dying to get some good flight time out of it.

I've got company coming over this weekend, including my young nephews (4 and 3) and would love to show them the heli in action instead of posing [;)]

Watching some of Bob White's T-rex/Heli videos I think I may have discovered what my problem is ... if there is a Reverse switch on the Key-Tech gyro, it may be in the wrong direction which seems to make sense because when the tail starts moving, it's almost as if the gyro encourages that movement in the same direction and I just cannot compensate for it fast enough.

That's the first thing I will check when I get home this afternoon, ugh I wish I would have checked before.

I'm sure Mike from Ka-Planes.com will ask me that probably for the first question too, LOL.

If the gyro or servo is reversed, then the gyro is adding to the problem. It thinks i'm swinging left, better add right, but since its reversed, its really adding left, which makes it worse.
