it happens...last weekend when I dumped my BH450.. it was doing simple stuff..a nice and sloppy figure 8... my first one I can fly them all day long on the sim.. but that gust of wind out of no where rolled me over to a knife edge... I jammed the stick the opposite direction to correct it before hitting... I ended up over correcting. knife edged in on the opposite side.. killed my elevator servo... that I had JUST replaced and had 2 flights on.. but that's ok... total damage in that crash... broke the front part of my landing gear... dental floss and CA fixed that (it has a cast now).. broke my woodies.. bent the feathering shaft.. and killed a cheap servo.. it could have been MUCH worse.. somehow, after going through 6 sets of woodies due to crashes (some very minor) I ahve only bent one feathering shaft and one main shaft.. still on my original flybar... even though I have 4 spares sitting there waiting.

The guy I fly with has a trex450.. he had a crash too... from about 6 inches up... he lost his boom, flybar..lost a paddle (we never cold find it) a set of woodies, feathering shaft, boom supports, horizontal fin (that he just replaced), CF tali push rod, and busted his canopy... I guess the BH450 is just stronger or... it all depends on how you hit... I still don't know what caused him to crash.. it looked like he was about to land and suddenly parts started flying..

I've only had one serious mishap, as mentioned before it was a bench test with the the motor plugged into the ESC. Something weird happened and the motor spooled up for no reason, my cousin was holding it, he tried to hold onto it while I grabbed the radio, but he had to let it go and it flopped around on the floor for a second, then the motor went dead.

By this time I had grabbed the radio, it was on, in throttle hold mode. Not sure what happened.

Bent my spindle shaft and stripped the main gear. The woodies were toast too.

When I rebuilt it, i moved to the dx6i and have not experienced anything like that since.

The only other part I've broken was the CF tail fin. I brought it down hard from about 5ft up and it crunched it. I replaced it with the align plastic one... it looks weird, but it's a lot stronger. I ground the nub off the bottom as it was getting caught in the grass and keeping the tail down on liftoff.

I am trying some 315 align pro woodies this weekend. My next set will be 325's.

I'm down to one heli (again) this morning it was calm,so I had the little CX2 outside flying around the back yard. I really had it cooki'n in FF,and out of nowhere,my WIFE walks out of the house, and right infront of it! I yanked the cyclic, and banked hard to the right! Right (yeah Right into the cast iron patio furniture! ) It is gonna need upper, and lower blades, both shafts,a complete body, new inner gear, and one servo! So after cooling down, and telling her NEVER walk out infront of anything I'm flying,I got the BH450SE out! As soon as I pluged the battery in,the wind (wind of Doom) started blowing,so I just hovered, ran the pack out,and put it up! I'm going FISHING this after noon! Yeah the wife is going too! I'll prouably get a hook in the ear,or nose Ron

My wife did that to me the other day. I was outside flying, testing some settings on my TX and she brings not one, but both dogs outside to run in the yard... I silently packed up and went inside.

Does any one use the Trex 450 Head or the HDX head on their BH450?
Will the main gear from either work with this heli?

Ed,if you are talking about the Main Rotor head,I have heard that the BH,and Trex heads are interchangable. The main gear (the big red one) is diffrent from the Trex. the BH has a belt sprocket on the bottom of the Main gear. The rex has a seperate gear and shaft that "run off the main gear"to drive the belt. Ron

so ron. could we still use the trex head? is the diameter of the main shaft the same size? i was thinking using the bh450 main shaft with trex head assembly. is it possible?

I thought I had read that in this thread some where Ron....but I wanted to be sure...I did not think the main gear would work...but I had to ask.
I did email Ka-Planes the same question and I will let you know their response...
The reason I asked in the first place is that there is a small brass sleeve that goes into a bearing on the main rotor yoke that allows the see-saw to rock and I lost one of them...it did not look like it came with the replacement parts you can order, so I thought I would just go ahead and upgrade the rotor head.

main gear is a no go.

the head would work but getting the rite swash is the key. you cant swap over the trex head to the BH swash because of the small brass ball and links the BH use,s. without buying a custom swash i couldnt do it

That is what I've been told. I have never tried it,but have had ,a few people tell me that the rotor head, and tail cage will interchange. Ron

SR,would you have to use the Trex swash as well to make it work? Ron

Why not just use the upgrade one for bh instead turning it into a different bird. It is a helipro. Keep as a helipro and put money into upgrading to a better
helipro instead making a mut. I'm keeping my helipro as a helipro, except might change motors and electric. Maybe rotor blade would be a bit different.
Anyways tomarrow is thursday and hope I receive the gyro and programing software and cord. Damn its taking a lil more. LOL I can wait though. I think

SR...I was thinking of replacing from the swash all the way up. Ka-Planes has the full metal head for the Trex...if the brass sleeve comes with one of the parts then I will most likely stay with the plastic parts for now because of cost.
Well Jim....the reason is parts availability and cost...Ka-PLanes does not have an entire Helipro rotor head set up to order so you have to buy individual parts which is more expensive...and the LHS has Trex parts. I would buy the full head from Ka-Planes and then if I broke or bent anything I would not have to order on line...I could go and get parts quickly. I like the BH as it came set up...but after I crashed I realized I now have to wait on parts to arrive. Yes somethings will always have to be ordered but I could stock up on items like main gears so I would have them on hand.
This is the rotor head I was considering
