Quite possibly, yes ... always turn on your TX before you power on your heli.

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/8/2007 9:07:31 PM)

now that im keyed in lol rear rotor works everytime lol.

i think the glitching may have been batter related [charge getting low].

got to give mike credit ive been driving him nuts lol and hes been a champ the whole time.

ea01bg -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/8/2007 10:45:57 PM)

I've had some minor glitching as well. Here is a link to a threed that I found with a way to reduce or stop it.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6425892/anchors_6425892/mpage_1/key_fcc%252Cring/anchor/tm.htm#6425892

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/9/2007 6:38:23 AM)

thanks ill give it a try too.

i thought it may have been a low battery but the heli would spool up and fly perfectly after the glitches.

it would just drop anywhere from 5-10 feet with me fighting to keep control

UPDATED NOVEMBER 2007 FOR CLARIFICATION PURPOSES
quote:

ORIGINAL: mikek0416

The manufacturer's market name is Heli Pro. We have a solid, open and honest relationship with them. After long term testing of the 450SE helicopter, we have made substantial progress improving a couple of the key components and in being able to provide our customers with a solid dependable electric line of RC helicopters. We are in the business of customer satisfaction. These are now sold at www.ka-planes.com

The following are the results of the review we went through to determine if we would sell these helicopters as your potential better Kopter.

VISUAL

The first thing I notice is silver/gray tail boom (450SE Pro). It has the visual look of being very thick and sturdy and the effect of the silver coloring on all of the metal parts and screws is really quite appealing.

The second area that I spot, is the head. It looks very thick and sturdy and the design is quite
solid. Bearings are added to crucial points in the linkage system to add more responsiveness
and smooth movements of the mechanisms.

WEIGHT

The weight of the 450SE is 675g including the canopy and battery
(weighed it with a 11.1v 2200mAh battery 161g)
- excludes 34g for stock 310 mm blades

DIMENSIONS

Though the dimensions are listed by my manufacturer, I always like to measure a heli
myself and these are reflective of my measurements.

Length: ~550 mm
with canopy 650 mm = 25.5"
Width: 112 mm = 4.5"
Height: 240 mm = 9.4"
Main Rotor 675 mm = 26.5"
Main rotor blade length: 310 mm ea. = 12.2"
Tail rotor blade length: 55 mm ea.

ELECTRONICS

3200kv outrunner brushless motor,
Powertech 35A ESC
HobbyPro head lock gyro
11.1v 2200mah Lipo battery and charger. (charger has the charge-finished light and we add a lipo balancer/charger)
6 channel receiver WFly ( seems like a manufacturer for some big brand labels)
Tower Pro 9g servos

TRANSMITTER

The RTF includes a 6 channel FT06C WFLY helicopter transmitter also has features for an airplane. The feel as with most radios is good and suitable from an ergonomics perspective. The Tx has a pitch dial on the face, idle up (3D), throttle hold and dual rate toggles. This is a very nice radio receiver system and the more I use it the more I like it..

QUALITY CHECK

Ka-Planes accomplishes prior to selling

1 visual, nothing bent or broken
2 screws randomly checked for tightness and head looked at for adjustment
3 wires neatly tucked and connected properly
4 fly into a hover and adjust Rx, gyro or Heli as appropriate
5 forward flight and figure 8 to check for adjustment
We use our batteries in the radio and heli

OPERATING MANUAL

The manual is certainly a weakness and I plan to rewrite it or at least tweak it. The photos help clarify different things but the words are not always clear as they could and should be.

OTHER OBSERVATIONS

The Black Hawk is easy to work on and it seems to be a heli that not only has a great appearance, but it is also very sturdy with reliable electronics. The initial helicopter we tested starting in the March 2007 timeframe has withstood numerous tests. The electronics, now that the gyro has been upgraded, have all been very reliable. No complaints or failures.

The Black Hawk releases in November 2007 are assembled with hex head screws other than the head and tail that use phillps head screws. Threadlock is recommened especially in the head and tail.

FLYING CHARACTERISTICS

The Black Hawk revs up smoothly and efficiently. The power combo (battery, ESC and motor) are powerful and the heli went into a hover with no trouble whatsoever. She is rock solid out of ground effect. Forward flight and rolls is smooth and effortless. Around the back yard and in the field the hawk is easy to navigate and is easy to see. The system is very responsive but not at all sloppy.

Upon landing, even a little hard, the heli seems very solid when hitting the ground, pavement and the garage floor.
Overall, this heli is a flyer!

SIDE-BY SIDES - not a debate, just my opinion

Black Hawk 450 and the Falcon 3D
Price - both list for $299.99
BH is longer, wider, taller and more stable (BH is the same size as a Trex and the Falcon is more petite)
BH motor and ESC are more powerful, durable and dependable
BH gyro is more reliable
BH quality is slightly better
Falcon Canopy is more appealing though paint jobs quality suffers. Hot Pink has come out of the factory,
BH canopy is much thicker and sturdier.
Falcon cardboard box is better, has a handle and can be used as a case. The outer box of the BH is thin and does not have a handle.
Parts availability is better on the BH. Not restricted like with the Falcon's. Trex compatible in lots of areas. However, Zoom 400 parts common to the Falcon are being discovered and is taking some pressure off of the buyers.
More online support for the Falcon, as far as owners
Falcon tail boom and tail mechanism is inferior
Falcon head and linkages is flimsy
BH transmitter is superior

OVERALL - BLACK HAWK SAME PRICE, BETTER APPEARANCE,

BETTER QUALITY, BETTER SUPPORT, BEST INCOMING INSPECTION

Black Hawk 450 SE and the Trex

The price of a Trex RTF (SE) varies, depending on installed options, from about $699 to over $1,000.
The Black Hawk SE , nicely equipped, ranges from about $400 for the 450SE to $699 for a Thunderbolt 450Z
Black Hawk is less expensive in all models
BH and Trex sizes very similar
BH motor and ESC are not known names (HobbyPro) vs Align
BH gyro name not internationally recognized as with Align
BH and Trex quality, no apparent difference
BH canopy is longer but Trex canopies fit the BH nicely
BH box includes styro inside but box is not a case with a handle
BH parts available and Rex 450 compatible is some areas. Trex parts availability superior.
More online support for the Trex, as far as owners
Trex head is similar
Transmitters vary depending on options selected
some parts thickness measurement comparisons (metal version)

carbon frame - same

metal head - B Hawk thicker

tail - B Hawk thicker but has a plastic slider

OVERALL - BLACK HAWK QUALITY SEEMS THE SAME OR SIMILAR AS TREX's AND IN SOME AREAS BETTER

SteveCink -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/11/2007 2:12:55 AM)

thanks for the update

MiniCwik -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/11/2007 5:32:56 PM)

Okay I got an all metal CNC head/swashplate/system :)

[IMG]http://www.ushobbysupply.com/images/HDX450-HSS.jpg[/IMG]

What is the process for replacing it?

What parts do I need to remove in order to remove the stock one?

Once I am done installing the new one, do I need do any pitch checks or radio adjustments? I've never done it, so go easy on me.

gino198 -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/11/2007 11:32:34 PM)

I almost got the same head when it was on sale for $95 a couple of weeks ago for a different project. Did you catch the sale? Its really nice, looks good, wish I did.

Once you remove the flybar, control cage and the screws that hold the head onto the shaft it should come of pretty easy. Set up the head level and you will have to adjust the serovs as close to level manually then use the radio tabs to fine tune.

ea01bg -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/12/2007 1:00:28 AM)

MiniCwik ,
Also word of advise. make sur that the screws right behind the flybar (the ones that are a pain in the behind to get to) are locktighted in. Once you get them in make sure the flybar still moves freely, if it binds at all back the screws off a bit. I had mine lossen up a couple of times.[:)]

MiniCwik -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/12/2007 6:06:22 PM)

Thanks Gino and Ea!

I will be installing it soon, maybe as early as tonight as my buddy with a DF36 needs the seasaw piece that they flybar goes through in the head from my stock/plastic head.

I don't want to get into it yet though, as tomorrow is going to be a prime day to get some stick-time in :-D 60's and sun with a 5mph breeze :-D

I did get some stick time in this weekend, ran through 4 packs and wow, what a rush ... I was flying further away from me than I usually do/can and the heli performed awesome! I also love the lipo battery monitor light I have, let's me know when the pack was getting low before I drained it too low. Just basic flights, with simple banking turns and a little speed ... nothing major as I didn't want to overdo things.

ea01bg -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/12/2007 7:09:33 PM)

MiniCwik,
lipo battery monitor light ?

MiniCwik -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/12/2007 7:22:57 PM)

Yeah, I ordered the one from www.ka-planes.com, soldered on a male deans adapter, picked up a multiple esc dean's adapter and it works great!

Click the pic (it's a link).

Looks pretty cool at night/dusk too!

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/14/2007 11:02:03 PM)

man i let the heli get to far away from me and i couldnt get it back to me. lol more parts

anyway i wonder where i can find the bottom part of the frame one of the landing gear tabs broke off.
also my one way bearing came out of the plastic main gear i superglued that in but the main gears are on backorder too.
as many landing gears as im going through im thinking gorrila gear is the way to go.

good news is i didnt even bust a blade and the rest of the heli is stand up [cut power as the tree jumped out and grabbed the innocent heli]

mikek0416 -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/15/2007 12:58:12 AM)

I responded to your email. I can get any part you need especially since I keep a couple of "parts helis" in my lab. Talk to you later!
Mike

ea01bg -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/15/2007 2:05:24 AM)

Dont you hate it when trees do that[:)] From my plank days I know they have it in for planes also[:D]

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/15/2007 4:19:04 AM)

it was 100+ yards away i was starting to get her leveled and hovering but so excited the sticks were being moved way to fast and the tree reached out for her lol so atleast i shut power off and man what a difference. im only about 8 dollars in parts down.

plastic landing gear struts and the plastic frame piece that holds the struts on. [and im trying to glue these too lol]

i did fold the carbon fiber tail stabilizer over but you got to love carbon fiber a little glue in the fibers and its like new and no need to replace. the cheapest wooden blades were on it and they didnt even get a nick :) this bird holds up very well.

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/15/2007 7:13:12 PM)

great service again from ka-planes.com

mike is really helping us beginners you wont get this kind of help from another place

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/15/2007 11:10:38 PM)

my swashplate moves around and seems to vibrate at lower rpm,s is this normal. seems to shake the heli pretty good until it gets to lift off speed then its smooth.

i pulled the main shaft out and it glides perfect across the glass

PaulLee -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/16/2007 1:44:26 AM)

make sure the main blade are not screwed in too tight and if they are loose enough to move them with your hands then they may need to be balanced.

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/16/2007 4:50:55 AM)

blades were just a hair to tight they would not fall under gravity but now there free. still bounces a little before lift off but the swashplate isnt bouncing near as bad. guess i should look at the feathering shaft now just too see

MiniCwik -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/16/2007 12:17:27 PM)

I've got a question, I installed a new all metal head setup and the blade grips seem way too tight on my Align Pro 315 wood blades.

Should I remove the black plastic/rubber pieces at the end of the Align blades to allow them to fit easier?

OR

Should I try to bend open the CNC aluminum blade grips some? or file them?

Thanks and here are some new pics.

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/16/2007 7:23:14 PM)

i wouldnt mess with the cnc head. since the blades from the factory dont have the rubber/plastic i would file [very flat] a little off the blades and then check CG and balance of the blades to make sure there not off.

freddonner -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/17/2007 10:57:39 PM)

hi guys - after looking around and reading so many posts, I talked to mike at ka-planes and ordered the black hawk 450EP. time will tell but i am psyched waiting for it to arrive.

PaulLee -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/18/2007 12:51:28 AM)

it is a good helicopter you will be liking it

srouthouse -> RE: The Better HeliPro Black Hawk (11/19/2007 2:16:43 AM)

figured out what my swashplate vibration was. after a slight blade strike that busted nothing, the upper part of the swashplate was pulling out of the bearing.

had my first strong blade strike resulting in the main shaft and feathering shaft and stabilizing shaft being bent. repairs are still under 10 bucks :)
