Open the advertisers index and see who advertises in RCR. Mr. Banks must be in tall cotten with all those high dollar folks they cater to.

Operating any magazine is a business and businesses are in business to make money. I begrudge no magazine the ability to make a profit, even a hansom profit, if they can. That is, after all, the idea behind starting the business. Other then Model Aviation, I feel R/C Report is the best available, now.

I miss RCM a lot too. I credit it with teaching me how to fly. Simple plans that were easy to follow and reviews that were in depth. My favorite part of it was their " for what its worth" department. I learned a lot from that . Their plans were second to none. I'd rather have an RCM plan and a pile of balsa as the best kit out there, thats how easy they were to build from. When they did an article and a plan on the "Quick Stick", that was the plane that made me an R/C pilot. I could build it with a spruce 2X4 , a discarded wing and tail feathers and wasnt afraid I was going to pile it up, becuase if i did, i didnt lose much.
RCM did shaft me on the last 2 yrs of subscriptions. They still owe me 55 bucks for 2 yrs of subscriptions I never got.

As a youngster my dad's RCMs had as much appeal to me as his Playboys. Well almost anyway. I miss RCM too.

There is a hobby shop here in Phoenix called Franks Hobbies and they have tons of old RCMs and other mags on a lower shelf. Looking through those sure took me back a few years, it was a pleasant little trip down memory lane.

RCM mags were great in the bathroom... especially just prior to a day at the flying field!

The moderator decided this topic had nothing to do with kit building and moved it to Q&A. Who are these people with so much free time on their hands they can spend it spliting hairs like this and make our decisions for us? RCM was about building and flying R/C model airplanes. Kit Building is about kit building which I felt had more to do with RCM's forte then Q&A. My original post was a statement, not a question or answer, so the change doesn't make sense (to me).

However, I thought the thread had died anyway. Maybe this will revive it. Thanks Howard, who ever you are!

RCM used to be the only modeling magazine that could be found in little town drug store magazine racks. I remember as a kid looking at a RCM as if it were the Holy Grail. I could look at one magazine for months, fanaticizing what it would be like to fly an R/C airplane. Of course it was much easier in my mind as a kid.

I’m not looking forward to the day Gordon Banks decides to retire.
