Carpy... you read my mind and it is indeed an item on my "parts to get list"

The aluminum indeed gets warm. I asked BOCCA BERRING if they have soem better ones for the rear drive, and they said they would check sizes and see if they did. I'm sure an upgraded ball berring drive kit would be a much improved way to go with the rear also rather than the stock ones (which work just fine but I may want better).

Dragging the truck home by the rear with wheels up in the air on a leash...... SUCKS !

OK, now I really did mess it up....

I was out running tonight, and the same old screw came loose fromt eh dif block and I had a replacement one in my pocket despite it being loctite in the hole, and drove around some more... got almost a full tank out o the truck then It slammed the rear brakes on HARDDDDDDDDD. I was like "What the......" I killed the engine, and inspected. saw nothing, and the flywheel and spur and pinion move the difgear turns.... then clunk. I back the truck up and clunk.

one rotation either way...... It has to be a screw backed out somewhere....

Youpppp. Actualy MISSING a screw also, and oddly enough this is in the upgraded FG rear alloy dif. One of the black small 4 mm flush screws is missing on the dif case and one is backed out a little bit. I'm going to have to strip it down a bit and see if I can fix it with out tearing the entire rear end apart to get to it..... Grrrrrrrrr.

Dave, I had a similar thing happen to me when I was having a fun session of jumping the heck out of mine the original plastic diff carrier tore apart where the ring gear mounted with the four screws. I couldn't see it at first and it was driving me nuts. I got the standard alloy housing and used a gob of red loctite on the screws and if these back off on me the next ones will get some jb-weld on them! It's been alright for a couple runs so far, but I haven't gotten a chance to really bash with it since. Good luck.

"OH CRAP" I said... I was able to sneek a philips (+) head screwdriver into the trany area at this angle ( yes the pic is sideways so you can see straight down to the screw and the angle you have to be at to work the screw in at a 30 degree angle then once it bites, you can use the sides of the screwdriver tip to worm the screw in there. I lock tites the 2 that were messed up. They came with 8 mm length screws, but all I had were 6 mm and 10 mm and 12 mm x 4mm so I went with the 10 mm and they worked just fine.

I've officialy cleaned out teh Homedepot across from my house in Latham NY of all the usefull screws and clips on our FG's so if anyone is in the area, you have to come to ME for parts and screw hardware hahaha .

It works again, and I'm glad this was an EASY FIX for once. Only had to remove the wheel and had enough room to get in there.

OK, I've got taco neck from looking at that pic now. I can't believe you snuck them in there and got them tight. That's awesome. I will have to look for some screws with a socket head so that a ball end hex can be used. I need to get one of those pullstart covers so the leaves don't get sucked into my flywheel next.

Jim I used a philips, but it was tricky. you have to use it as if it were a ball end driver, but it isn't. ya have to use angle pressure to get the screw in with the tip ( magnetized tips are a MUST !) , then it will work, and you can tighten it by dropping the tip and comming in from under the lower arm by compressing the shocks up a bit to tighten the screw.

Sorry I left that part out...

30.00 for an outerwears* cover....... First time I seen them I was like " YEAH RIGHT... like I'm gunnah buy that !"

*I own 2 now... LOL

Wehalp, Lightning DOES strike twice afterall....

I ran my truck at WOT for about an hour lastnight and had the dif screws failure , but I got a full tank of time out of it, so I went home satisfied since i fixed it and it was good for a nother day of play and roughhousing. It was awesome at night lastnight in a deserted 1/8th mile long straight away..... brand new parking lot, but saddly no vid because it is too dark for my camera.

Today I went out and returned to my puddle location and there is a huge steep grass hill, and I wanted to rip around on it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WipJhWyuvBs

I had about 20 minutes of footage, but it's damn hard to tape and drive at the same time, and for some reason one of the files won't upload and is corrupted.... figures it is the long one with some awesome burnouts and dirt slinging rooster tails.....GRRRRRR .

In Part 2, ( about 20 minutes later) I blow what I think is the drive hub set screws loose again ( easy fix I think... and I brought my tools with me for just such repair) but saddly...... the truck is going to be a shelf queen for about week now cause I have to order parts.....

part # 6069 and 6079. I swear there is no-one who has this in stock cept FG-Supply, and they want almost eight dollars to ship this and some spacers....

gah I swear I smell shipping scam .... what a ripoff !

Hopefully RCNUTs contacts me back tomorrow and has them in stock in NJ and can ship them USpostal mail for 1/2 that.

Otherwise my truck may be sitting for a few weeks till the FG parts start flowing again outa germany.

Parts came today. FGSUPPLY Butchered the address for my house otherwise it would have been here Monday. I had FedEx Ground calling me to ask where the heck I was..... I told them to ask the delivery driver "remember where that loud ass monstertruck was that you almost got ranover with ? deliver it there... " The guy on the phone said he would have asked him, but the normal guy was out on sick leave and a fill-in driver was driving.

I'm tearing it down tonight. If I make it before sundown, I'll film it ripping over that hill and clearing 20 feet of air

Layshaft gear teeth are sharp as tiger claws now. Time to replace......
ANd the body is soon to follow. Have a nasty crack in teh front bumper around the light housing area now from impacts and "nose overs".
argh. Lost 2 screws outa the side of the diff again. Anyone else have rear-end issues like this at roughly 6 gallons of gas through a truck, or am I just really womping on it that hard ?

Upgraded the rear dif gear cover to alloy about 2 months ago, and I'm already worn it down to the point where the screwheads are starting to show scrape wear. Is there a steel alloy one that is harder than aluminum on the market ?

A new truck will be cheaper I think as I'm racking up a huge list of parts that are getting seriously beat and bent outa wack.

Front FG upgraded servosaver is rubbing on the bulkhead blocks in the front end. I think I slammed an unseen stump or root a bit too hard and added a bit more nose up tilt to the front of my truck chassis....

ARGH !

ps: I love this truck
pss:Winter is staying far enough away that I may finaly order a smartech f-40..... IF they can get me a blue body

EDIT: f- smartech they have not gottenback to me AGAIN for the third phonecall, and 4th email in a months time.

I orderd an HPI baja SS.

* yeah, thats right, I ORDERED A NON-FG PRODUCT SO NOW CAN I PLAY WITH YOU SISSY HPI FAN BOYS NOW TOO ?
