I did a search, but couldn't find anything.

A couple of years back, I got a Honey Bee as a gift from my wife. I connected the transmitter to laptop to practice with FMS, got the hang of it, and proceeded to try my first flight. The helicopter lifted, did a roll to the left and smashed the blades on the ground. OK, so I figure I'm a dumb nube and figured I'd try to repair it at a later date.

I recently decided to try again. I bought a bare bones (moderate mistake) because I could not find the exact rotor assembly. I started moving the radio and noticed I have a 6 channel receiver and a 4 channel transmitter. When I used to fly R/C planes many years ago, it didn't matter because the transmitter sent out a pulse train and the receiver just responded to the first set of pulses. This receiver seems too sophisticated for that.

Should I go out and buy either a six channel transmitter or a four channel receiver?

patv54, assuming the receiver came with the transmitter and thus the shift ( positive vs negative) is the same and the modulation is the same ( e.g. PPM ( FM)) then you should not have a problem, also assuming the heli you are flying is flyable with a 4 channel radio. Just make sure the receiver channels you plug servos into correctly correspond with the action the servo is assigned to do. Also, is this one of those 3in1 or 4in1 receivers that have main motor and tail motor power outputs? If it is, you probably have more channels than you think.

Yes, it's eSky all around. The radio is FM, 72 MHz, from a Honey Bee and it has a built in gyro and mixer. The motors plug directly into it. It's going from a Honey Bee into a Honey Bee, both 4 channel FP machines. The radio did work in the old heli, so I'd think it's OK.

I guess I need to figure out what I did wrong that caused the roll on take off. A repeat performance of the crash would not be a good thing. That's one of the reasons why I thought I'd ask the question: if there's a mismatch and that could have caused the roll, I don't want to repeat the mistake.

I was short some hardware, so I couldn't move the radios in time for last weekend. If I get the hardware in time, we'll see what happens this weekend :-)

Thanks.

Pat

check and make sure that your swash plate is level, that the trims are close to centered and that your CG looks good =) That should give you a good starting point to tune from

Also, make sure you didn't accidentally reverse any of the channels... e.g. give right aileron input and get left aileron on the heli.
