Assuming you mean the MaxAir version...

In the Basic class anything is legal, but I'm not so sure it would be legal in anything above basic. The general rule for Sportsman and above is it must be with 10% of scale of the real thing

Where is that rule???? Never noticed it in the judging and regulation guide...

So that would include planes like the Citabria Pro which was built specifically for acrobatics but never actually competed?

Yes. Now since it has not competed.......according to the AMA rules you would need to be able to prove to the CD of the contest that the airplane could have competed in IAC inside the IAC box.

You simply saying it can would not be good enough. You'd need more techinical or visual aids to prove it.

Remember its on the pilot to prove their planes full scale counterpart could do it. The CD does not have to help you prove it. And simply saying that the rest of your class at that competition doesn't mind isn't good enough either if your points are going to count for Regional or the TAS.

I know that the Aerotech Velox has been flown in many IMAC contests in the higher classes (Sportsman & up), and I know of a guy who flys the little Maxair glo engine version in Basic.

Please verify the comment that "anything" is legal in Basic. Can I fly my SPA Deception pattern plane in Basic to try this IMAC stuff out? I don't have enough hours on my 30% Extra 260 to fly it safely in a contest yet and there's one coming up soon locally.

Thanks,

Rich

Yep you can use the pattern plane. The guys are probably gonna kill you if you win though since a pattern plane is built to fly aerobatics extremely well, Just kidding, fly what you have and go have some fun. Practice is everything and being smooth is key.

I've seen Ultra Stiks, Four Stars, a Twist, a Lil Toni and even Spad once

Kool, will do. The contest is the 20th of this month. I've got three or four openings to practice the IMAC pattern. We'll see how an OS91FSIIP powered Deception will fare...I'll post results regardless of outcome. Wish me luck. I'll take my Veco 61 powered Kaos as a backup.

Rich,

good luck and most of all have fun, ask the judges, if they have time, to give you some pointers and also if at all possible scribe for the judges that are judging other classes. A good one will tell you where and why he deducted points. Try to have a good caller that can help you make corrections. A good caller is invaluable because he can see things that you may miss.

One good thing to always remember is it''s not the look of the plane but the track of it. You can be doing a vertical line with a crosswind and have the nose pointed into the wind and be 30 degree to that side, but as long as the CG point is tracking straight up that is all that matters and always keep the wings level throught out every maneuver
