Hey guys, I need some help. I have decided I need another plane, and I decided I want a Ultimate Biplane, I just don't know which one.
I have a 41cc gas engine I want to use. I have been looking at the World Models 27% Ultimate. and I am looking at the Wild Hare Ultimate, and I know there are a few others out there.

I am planning on mainly flying aerobatics, pattern and maybe compete in IMAC someday, and maybe some 3D for fun.

Well thats about it, let me know what you guys think and any other ones I may have missed to help me decide.

Thanks guys, later

Ken

I had the 33% World Models Ultimate... loved it... however, if you are a novice builder, the instructions sucked. I have owned a Wild Hare Extra, and know several people who have had other WH models (however no Ultimates). WH planes are usually top of the line, and Tom always gives great support.

Hi,

The WH ultimate is a great plane. I have one and love it. I don't believe that your 41 cc gas engine is enough engine for the plane. Bipes have a lot of drag.

Hello Zort86 - Just my two cents on the Ultimates. I have a new Great Planes Ultimate that I'm almost ready to start putting together. It will be powered with a Venom 45 (Copperhead Aviation), and is my first foray into gas.

While I cannot confirm anything on the 41 and the models that have already been mentioned, everyone that I've corresponded with really likes the Great Planes 160 version (64 inch W. S.) with the 45 or 50 cc engine. In fact, Great Planes sells a combo package with a 43 cc engine, but based upon the information some of those posting to the forums have shared with me, the 41 would defintely be marginal for some aerobatics. The Carl Goldberg model is another model that has come highly recommended as well (54 in W.S) but it may be a bit small for the 41. It's my understanding that it is more suitable for a 26, and in fact, due to its size may not like the additional weight of a gas engine even of the 26 size. Personally, I lean towards overpowering a bit, even on my glow engines. Just because you got it, doesn't mean you must flaunt it!!! LOL! I'm not at all like many fliers that push the throttle to the firewall and leave it there. I manage the throttle and do most of my flying at 1/2 or 2/3 throttle, unless on an extended up-line.

If you will go to the forums (and they are quiet extensive) on the Ultimates, there are people out there with experience that will help you, especially with the Goldberg and Great Planes models, and I suspect that with the Wild Hare and World Models model as well; and yes, I've heard good things about both of those as well, but no personal experience in any of them - just some information from some who have.

Here are a couple of forums to get you started:

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_3240915/anchors_4772691/mpage_113/key_/anchor/tm.htm#4772691

These will keep you busy for a while!

But whatever you do, always remember; "Experience is a hard teacher. She always gives the test first, and the lesson sometime later!"

Hey guys, thanks for the info.

I was flying a 1.20 size Lanier Stinger with the 41cc engine on it and the specs o that was 80" wing, 1344 sq in of wing area and it weighed in at 17 lb dry.
The 41 seamed pretty powerful for that, I was not doing 3Dwith it, just aerobatics. I was reading a build tread on **** and a few people are building the WM Ultimate with a ZDZ40 and they are saying if you keep the weight down then it should be fine. Plus with a DA50 it is has unlimited power. My thoughts are I want to get a 50cc engine, just that the funding is the problem right now, so I was hoping to fly it with the 41cc that I already have and work up to a DA50.

I already have a 55" Goldberg Ultimate with a super tiger .75 on it. OK it is not unlimited power and vertical, but it moves it pretty good for what I am looking to do with it. I just love the way the plan flys and I wanted to get in to something a bit bigger. I was also reading the specs on the ultimates out there and it seams they are rating the 27%er at 40cc to 50cc engine range.
Well I will let you know what I end up going with and I will set up a build thread on it. If I don't go with a Ultimate I will end up with a 25%-27% Extra, every one at our fild has Yaks and I just can not see getting something that everyone else has.
