Glad it went so well for you all.

This is what you can do with the airbrakes! (1.40)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dj1Puh-nRDI&feature=player_embedded

As you say they look great with everything hanging dirty and landing lights ablaze, great airframe.

I'd absolutely love to come over sometime, went to Greece last year but the other half says she's not going away without the mutt again.

See you at JetPower????

So I had a slightly firm landing with my L39 and took the oleo apart to free the trailing link to take the twist out. Would it be useful to put some grease in there to add some damping to the springs and if so how much?

You may need some heat to take the bend out without breaking the arm.
Some grease will be fine but don't overdo it and do both oleo's.
Unfortunately that won't help heavy landings though, make sure you check the plywood mounts if you haven't done so already!

The arm straightened fine without any heat and the mounting all appear fine.

I will try a little grease in both oleo.

Thanks,

Malcolm

Hello all, I am finally starting to assemble my L39 (GJC version) and I have a few questions .....

Should I replace the main gear door cylinders with larger ones (Robart ones, 1/2 inch in diameter are presently installed) ?

Any issues/concerns with the aileron servos in the tip tanks ? Or should I mount them in the wing (making a mod similar to what I did with the rudder servo) ?

Thanks. Bob

Bob, the Robarts should be fine, standard JL ones are not up to the job.
Servo's in tanks work fine as long as you get the hinge centre line in the correct place so the torque rod is on the hinge line,
Gary.

Hi Bob
I have the standard jl rams on mine ! I found it was all to do with the position that you fit them to the doors ! Work great with mine also I have used 4mm airline on the main gear up seams to help them go away !

Oh yes, our JL L-39 has flown
Finally, we still had a LH main gear break out on the first taxi run, all scres gone but after repairing it we did 2 flights.
Both with gear out there gear down nipple broke during the taxi run.

The L-39 with 120SX is well powered enad with this combo it`s a real scale flier.
Flown it of a militay base but I`m not afraid to fly it from a 80 or 100 mtr grass strip with this set up.

Had placed some 200 grams of lead extra in the nose but the next time I will remove some because it felt a little nose heavy in the turns.
Als I had 2 clicks of nose up in the elevator to fly level.
With only 2 clicks of left aileron it flies level.

Weight with the complete cockpit is around 15,5kg empty.
I will measure it some time again what the exact weight is.

1ste stage of flaps at a slow speeds, give just a very minor pitch op, full flaps a little more but not much so very neutral with the flaps.
Speedbrake also, no pitch change during selection of the this.
The doors stayed close durign flight, I`ve installen some what longer Fei Bao cilinders on the doors.

With full power level flight and then vertical it climbed easely to +/- 150/200 mtrs, so power enough.
Only did de landings with 1ste stage of flaps.

Next time with working gears and full flaps and speed brake.

I have to say a very easy plane to fly with very nice characteristcs.
Next time a more powerfull flight with some rolls, loops and inverted flights.

So this plane is ready to participate at Jets Over Pampa

Grt,
Berto.

My doors were factory fitted, the geometry was not ideal so the better rams cured the problem.

Thanks, I like it a LOT, even with this 2 easy flights.

It flies easier then my PA F-15, and would be a very good demo model.

Even now I`m thinking of maybe selling my F-15 and order a C&C Model L-39 with a 2011 color scheme (see attached picture) as own and Demo model.
I really love that striping and even my old P120 will fit there that airframe is somewhat lighter (they say), later when I saved some money a upgrade to a P140RX

But that`s maybe for this winter first another project after the vacation.

Things to do for next flights:
- repairing/installing the LH MLG and correcting the RH MLG so these will never can come loose again,
- removing some lead from the nose,
- again a complete check of the airframe and all hinges, screws etc.

FLY!!!!!!!!!! Next flights gear up and some more envelop testing

Grt,
Berto.

Airfighter.eu or Dreamworks.
If you are talking scale bear in mind that the full size is powered by a turbofan and has NO afterburner!!

I now have bought a C&C Models L-39 big and light for myself, see here the thread:
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11249375

And Jet Legend has a new version of there L-39 on the production line.
This version will have:
- opening canopy`s,
- opening doors in the front fuselage,
- wing tube instead of the 4 small carbon ends.

Grt,
Berto.
