I haven't seen a whole lot of discussion on this little sexy plane. Hobby lobby has a great deal going right now if you buy a whole combo (over$500) with $100 off. I'm still very new at the electric thing, so my question is that hobby lobby recommends the AXI 2826/10 OUTRUNNER and the Jeti SPIN 44 Amp Brushless Speed Control. Is that the best combo for this plane? The jeti is really expensive for what i have seen especially for a 44 amp controller. also I will be using 3 cell packs with this plane. I just don't want to buy the combo because this is what they say and it be wrong. I am a 3d capable pilot in almost every aspect and that is how this plane will be flown. Any input would be appreciated
thanks
Al

I'm suprised too that there isnt much discussion about this model. They called it "one of the best kept secrets" in one of the other forums!. Having said that - the katana and sukhoi seem to be getting pretty well established here in the UK and they are getting one heck of a good reputation - for good reason!.

With regards to the power system - I think the rule of thumb is 150W/lb so for this model any high torque power train over around 350W should be plenty of power.

I'm using the recommended Hacker setup on it and it works fine- even on just a 2170 3 cell.

Greetings and I have had this bird for about a month now and really like the way it flies, so much so that I've bought it's bigger brother! Anyway I'm running a geared inrunner that I had in-hand which delivers around 500 watts on a 3S1P Polyquest pack. Performance is sparkling needless to say. And yes it flies really light and I've had mine catch a thermal or two which is really neat to see......... A buddy of mine says it has 'silly power' which is about right in my book. I'm still learning the 3D stuff but am quite happy with the way it flies. So is my 5 year old, especially after she tried to tear the ailerons off in a power dive while I was occupied elsewhere The Katana survived and so did she .

flew mine for the first time today. I'm very happy with it. Plenty of power, good flight time and flys so much larger. Plus it just plain looks sexy.

I'm running a Scorpion motor in my Sukhoi (my second one, elevator clevis came undone on the first) pulling around 460 Watts on a 14x7 APC e. I wouldn't want to be 3 D'ing on anything less than this, my AUW is 56 Oz's.

I have both the sebart Katana and Sukhoi, the Sukhoi is in my opinion more aerobatic than the katana, but in saying that, i think out of the (100+) planes I have had, they are by far the best flying ones around.

If it wasnt so dear to get an Angel 50 in the air, Id have one too.

Be interested to know what mah batteries some of you are using and what flight times you're getting, it was a toss up for me between the Extreme Flight 45" Extra and the Katana. I have 3 x's 2170's at the moment and figured with the lighter weight and comparable to another bird I have I'll get approx 10 / 12 mins flight time out of that dependant upon throttle but thought with the Katana being that much heavier to get reasonable flight time it may have meant a new set of batteries.
Just a by the way and gong back to the original question I've only heard good things about this plane with the only possible exception being the undercarriage could do with some reinforcement.

My power setup in the Sukhoi will be the HACKER A30-10xl with scorpion 70a esc... Esc is an overkill but it came cheap... spinning a 14x7e prop..

Modelflight australia as well as esprit models in USA recommends the hacker A30-10xl with the X55 opto pro esc if thats any help to you...

Batteries im running are 2200 thunderpower extrememe 11.1 3s lipos. they are light and pack a punch and i still get 7 solid minutes flying 3D with them.
