Is there a FWD RC drag racing class?

Hi Spetz,

Bracket Class. FWD, RWD, 2WD, 4WD, electric or nitro. Bracket Class is pretty much run-what-you-brung as long as it has brakes and a mechnaical spring or surgical rubber band throttle return for nitro cars. Most all major sanctioing organizations (MSO) consider BL motors as "rare earth" motors, and as such MAY require a safety quick disconnect at the motor. Be sure to check to see if your local strip allows LiPo/LiMn batteries in Bracket Class. Some MSO don't; but when the same strip runs under a local sanction, they do.

Hope this helps. Have fun.

Here's the classes they run in Chicago... there's a very large contingent of street car drag racers up there, like maybe 50 guys all running 4WD cars there... scroll down to page 4, Street Classes.

Hey Spetz,

The fastest of the two we've seen are all RWD. One reason for that may be dynamic weight transfer experienced during acceleration on a drag strip - RC included, of course. During acceleration, especially from a standing start as in drag racing, weight shifts dynamically from front to rear. That provides added traction for RWD, and less traction for the front tire set on 4WD. It may be that the reduction in traction available for the fronts on 4WD during acceleration isn't worth the added weight or rotating mass to make a 4WD drag configuration competitive.

Our two cents.

That's pretty much it
I know in real cars, the added weight + drivetrain loss + all the weight shifts to the rear so for a purpose built drag car RWD is the way to go
So much so, I think the worlds fastest FWD drag car is faster than the worlds fastest AWD car.
Both are in the 7 second range

How long is the RC drag strip? And what sort of ET and trap speeds do they reach?

Hey spetz. Alot of things come into play. What kind of AWD cars ETs you want to know? Track is 132 ft scaled down for a really drag track. A small block .18 and under is a, sportsmen class car. Runs in the 47-58 MPH with ETs in the 2.295 and up. A pro street car class is a big block .21 and up. Run in the 58 to 65 MPH. ET's in the 2.16 and up. Don't think I have seen one hit the 1.9 mark. Sure it is coming. And all this is in 132ft. Pro car classes. You can go to www.bigsquidrc.com In MidWest Rc Drag Racing series forum. And get more info hope I helped you out some..................Jayson
