I purchased a set of 4 hitec 5625 for a 3d profile 60 size plane. The servos are 6 months old, and the rudder servo is getting side to side slop. You can actually see the center screw of the servo move side to side slightly while flexing the rudder. All the other surfaces are fine. Should i send it in for warranty repair before it gets bad????

Gear wear is not covered under warranty but there are some ways to combat it before you need to change the gears out. You can rotate the all the gears (except the output gear) 180 degrees and then relube it and put it back together. This will typically eliminate about 90% of the slop. You'll only be able to do this once before needing to replace the gears.

Typically you should get about 200+ flights out of a metal geared servo before needing to replace the gears. However some applications are harder on the gears as you have noticed with the rudder vs. the rest of the control surfaces. Try and make sure that you use the shortest horn as possible and all the radios EPA and D/R capability at full rates to help keep it from being as noticable. This way it takes more servo travel to affect the surface... if you have a really long horn on the servo it only takes a small movement to affect the control surface and it will amplify the condition. This would also apply to centering accuracy.

I hope this helps.

Mike.

Its slop doesnt feel like its in the gears. They feel tight. The slop is in the servo post and you can move it side to side?

If this makes sense.

could it be a bearing wearing? Would that be covered?

thanks

How much movement is there?

It's possible it could be the bearing.. you could always pull it apart and check. If it is, then it would be easier and quicker for us just to send a replacement bearing than to have to go through the whole return/repair process.

If you don't feel comfortable doing this then by, all means send, it in.
