Hey... i've got the sonic charger and have built several 3s packs out of a dewalt 36volt pack.

The "Sonic Charge" claims 15 minutes.... but it takes me WAY longer to charge my batteries(45mins?)... they seem to sit in "balancing mode" most of that time.
Is this normal?

I have only put 2-3 flights on each pack so far... will they balance out after several more flights and charge faster?

What is happening when the charger is balancing... is it still charging at the full 10 amps or is it doing some small trickle charges?

Does it balance once the cells are close to fully charged or does it do it through the entire charge range?

How can I charge my cells in 15 minutes or less?

Is it safe to float charge these cells with a regulated voltage(10.8v?) power supply at 10 amps?

I am using these in a 450 electric heli... the headspeed is not so great compared to lipo... should I just get a bigger pinion for my motor? I believe I have a 12T gear made to run 3s lipo... what
size should I run with A123?

Thanks for any help!

Also, I made my balance connector out of some old trash servos, snipped the connectors off, works like a charm....
the only problem with this method is the fact that I can plug the balance wire in backwards.
What happens to the charger if the two balance/sense wires from a 3s pack get reversed?

I have an 3s as well and did the same wire mod like you did. It's about 15 minutes for an 2s pack. 3s takes a bit longer, but not 45 minutes. I put a fan within the sonic charger to cool it down during charging. Cause when it would get really hot, it would take longer to charge. It balances the packs towards the end.

so.. any idea how I can get these to charge in 15 minutes? How damaging is it to charge them to 3.9v/cell? I have a 11.8v 12 amp power supply for computer.
