Sweet job on the new site and thread. I've downloaded the vids, and I'll watch them this afternoon after my homework is out of the way. Still working on getting my old apartment cleaned out and ready to rent, so no flying lately. But the Stryker IS getting painted this week, if I'm lucky it'll be maidened in WPB next weekend

Doug,
Ken,

The 8 X 4 prop that I was using on the Ploat was the same motor as the SU. It doesn't vibrate on the Ploat, so I guess it's either the motor on the SU, or the mount can't take it. I guess the slightest vibration gets magnified with the larger prop. It would most likely kill the flight time anyways.

The 7 X 4 is probably the right choice for the motor/plane. I have to try it again on a calm day, to get a real feel for it.

I just have to be faster than Bob's new Jet
http://yardbirdrc.com/Airplanes.htm

What size bearing was that that fit in the Bp-21's ? I looked on BP site, but there was too many to pick from.

Pappy, your prop adapter could have a slight bend in it (or are you using a prop saver?) if you're using a prop saver, then it could be the motor shaft. If not, it could be the same problem as the $5 motor you and I fixed, where you lost your balls.. I mean ball bearings. Those bp-21 bears are 3x6x2 or 3x6x2.5 (3 is inside diameter, 6 is outside diameter, and 2 or 2.5 is the thickness.
These are the ones that I bought from BP http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V414811&pid=U886131
They're OK for these cheap motors, but if you're going to mod a motor & try to start pushing 50,000 rpms, these guys are the way to go, ceramic, http://www.vxb.com/page/bearings/PROD/3mm/Kit7748
I'm still working on plans for a 40 inch plane, twin BP-21 style motors (I'll probably rewind them for 1600 kv myself to make sure they can handle the amps) replace the bearings & crank the motors up to about 32,000 rpms (6cell lipo) with 5x5 props. Should sound like two really really pissed off bees. 140mph pitchspeed though.. Hmm still gotta play with the idea some more...

Ken,

Thanks for all that great info. I will investigate the vibration issue further. I have some prop saver to try out.

Scott,

Bob should have the Jet very soon.

We need to harp on him for some posts. We know he is reading, but just a scaredy cat to post. He thinks he might get hooked on the thread.

Ya Think, DUH

I just got back from a very short beaver flight. I give the plane a toss at about 50% power off it goes I give it some more power and it went straight up and tried to stall I recovered twice and it did it again. The ballast is not rattling around inside. I did find a strut loose when I went to pick it up. I wonder if that thing popped loose on the initial climb and my stall recoveries were doomed.

I could not get a handle on the plane. I have some fuel line that I was putting on clevis's this afternoon, I just wanted to sneak in one more flight. The only damage so far is the motor mount. No problem there.

Tim

Fast reply
Sray,
How about we open a new Patpal acc and I stuff donations in there. The cashola will gain decent interest (for those unaware, Paypal pays around 5% on the money in your account). I think that the cashola should be used for the 1st aid station. GG had one heck of a good setup but I think we shouldn't take advantage. I really like all the stuff he had there so we should just keep up with the parts we use and what we'll need more of.

All in favor?

And we must thank Pappy for saving what I wrote a long time ago for someone that wanted to know what our thread was about. Randy put it on his web site for all to read. I would never have been able to recreate that. I deleted two words and corrected the spelling of one word and did a cut and paste.

Thanks Andy for giving me the credit for it on Post One. You could just as easily made it anything you wanted.

Hi Mike
Hi BendR

Fern,
Nice goin on the Beave. I always try to fly high. About 300 to 400 feet. Not many bad things happen up there.

Paul,
Nice report. I think those Hotliners you saw can be found at Northeast sailplanes. Not sure of the actual name. My Aquila Speed is an older, say 10 year, model of the no longer in existence F3B. Now it's F5B. The Aquila will do a lot of what you saw tho probably not as well. These Hotliners really move.
Oh, you asked about thermaling also. Yep. Mine can be set up with or without a motor. Most are bungeed tho some are towed when built without a motor.
The Gasser guys know more about this type of plane.

Hi Mac,
Watched your football game last night. It's always tuff playing #1 but you did well. And no. I'm a UCLA fan as far as local College teams go but my fave is Stanford and Oregon Ducks.
